Ok, well, looks like its time to start festival saving already - Iron Maiden, Evanesence, Machine Head, Marilyn & Slayer certainly sounds a good start. Not sure MCR as headliners to this sort of festival, not that they're not good, just don't see them as headline standard myself. Still, will have to see what else comes along :)

Machine Head would probably tempt me.....I'm hoping for Slipknot but I dont think it will happen, particularly with Stone Sour almost announcing themselves to be there.

I was quite disppointed with this choice of headliners. Only Maiden do it for me out of those 3
I'm hoping that the rest of the line-up makes up for it. :)

Meh, I'm not fussed at all with that lineup. I did shell out for Coachella in the end though!
Slayer, Megadeth, Manson, Wolmother, Fall Out Boy and Evanescence were all on Kerrang Radios website as being there too. They also said Motley Crue would be headlining the second stage on Saturday.
But, yeah apart from Maiden the headliners are awful.

Its fun for all the family so its My Chemical Romance for 12 year olds, Iron Maiden for 40 year olds and kids who haven't learnt that you always laugh at your parents music tastes and linkin park for easy listening for all ages. So it will be one big picnic atmosphere :D

I'm going. I had a lot of fun running round the smaller stages last year. Gojira were my highlight!
Linkin Park headlining - are you 'aving a larf? They were over 3 years ago weren't they?
Saying that, if Machine Head are gonna be there, i'm gonna be VERY jealous!

*sigh* at the line up.
It ain't what it used to be :(
I remember the days of Extreme, GnR, Pride and Glory, Skid Row all playing donnington... now it is full of old has-beens or the latest Kerrang favourite.
My Chemical Romance headlining? SHAME ON THE ORGANISERS.

At least it isn't as bad as Bloodstock! :P

HEEHEE :D
I just remembered a time when pretty much every bad who played was a rock band... not a pseudo rock band who is nothing more that a kiddie joke (Craddle of Filth) or Nu-Metal rubbish... heck they even had some dodgy trance stuff at a rock gig! FREAKS!

 sorry but the "it's not like the old days" cracks me up, you obviously don't remember the moaning that went on in '85 when ZZ Top headlined with Marillion on before them.
Why not wait for the full line up, with 3 stages there is bound to be some acts you'll like. Since moving to a 3 day format they have to spread things out a bit and it's perfectly natural that "Kerrang favs" will appear and whether you like MCR or not they are popular.
Some other acts confirmed today:
Marilyn Manson
Slayer
Killswitch Engage
Wolfmother

Eh? Bad News were fantastic, even if it was only to see the reaction of the thick meathead metal fans everywhere who were highly offended by the thought of anyone taking the **** and were literally turning bright red with rage as they launched their bottle at the stage. Plus they were still better than Warlock.

I think I've still that album somewhere! I'm still not entirely sure why I bought it but in it's defense it has got some of the most hilarious album artwork ever.
Good old Doro, I suppose our own UK equivalent was Lisa Dominique :gag:

Some of those "thick meathead metal fans" actually enjoyed Bad News, because guess what, we got the joke, and even paid money to go see them do a proper gig at Hammy Odeon afterwards. Ade Edmondson is a competent musician, Nigel Planer can also play, Rik Mayall was the only one making no attempt to play. In fact, I watched More Bad News on Paramount a few weeks back - still makes me laugh.
Ozzy was alright - good stageshow, Scorps were good, Leppard sounded pretty crap but it was the first time anyone had seen them since the Rick Allen accident, and Motorhead were Motorhead. And Doro Pesch was the first girl to appear on the Donington stage. I think the second girl was Linzi Drew (allegedly) when Blackie Lawless of WASP slit her throat a year later during the Bon Jovi headlining all-American Donington.

Well whilst plenty appreciated them but I'm talking about the people that were absolutely livid at their presence (worse than when Ratt took the stage the previous year!). It was the same story at Reading the same year (or maybe it was the following year?) too, and I suppose ultimately why they stopped touring after Nigel had to have stitches in his nose after some idiot chucked a full unopened can at him at the Marquee. I never understood how anyone could be into metal and not love Bad News but even amongst the other metal fans I knew as a kid some just hated them despite being fans of other Comic Strip stuff like Mr Jolly etc. I still love Bad News - Bootleg had me in stitches again the other week even though I've probably heard it 50 times.

I've got a Kerrang Ladykillers VHS with her on - her brother Marino had the same ad in Kerrang promoting his albums for years in the late 80's, he must of bulk booked for about 3 years!

She was a hell of a looker, but godawfull singer, saw her one Friday night on James Whale TV show 'singing' live :oh-hum:Not overly bright, either. I met her backstage at a Reading Festival (on the day that Bad News played, strangely enough; as a quick aside, their tent was superb. All the bigger bands had marquee affairs. In the middle of the backstage area was a two-man tent, cordoned off with lawn edging with a hand-written cardboard "sign" ... Bad News hosper hospa hispa **** IT Beer Tent. :notworthy . Anyway, back to Lisa ...) in the general booze tent at the end of the night. Got pix with her & invited backstage at any of her gigs, which was nice. She asked where I was from, "Manchester", I says (easier than explaining whereabouts Wigan is). "Oh, I come from near there" says Lisa. "Really? Where?" "Leeds" ....
Suppose its nearer to Manchester than Reading ....

Well last year was with guest vocalists after Jonathan Davis took ill and prior to that they appeared back in 2004.

The Crue and Machine Head- excellent. Will get ticket at end of month!
Definitely heading in the right direction with the line up now, machine head just about sells it for me, so ticket as soon as i have some money - anyone lend me a few quid :)
I going to have to hurry and buy my ticket soon as well. I noticed yesterday that car park passes need to bought separately this year otherwise it will be a tenner when you get there. Also the booking fee seems far more than previous years :(
This weeks additions are:
Dream Theater
Megadeth
Turbonegro
Plus
Buckcherry
Shadows Fall

Enter Shikari.. Exit those with taste. ;)
Few decent acts there, but really don't think I could put up with the surroundings enough to bother.
Some good bands there on the new announcement, I saw though they are saying camping tickets are selling out - hope they will last another 2 and a hlaf weeks till I can afford it, would hate to have to ebay it :(

Not enough on there for me to part with a summer holidays worth of money for 2 people just for a handful of bands. Will stick with the bash again this year. Even if it is Status Quo headlining ;)
I'll be able to book mine next Thurs so I'm just praying they don't sell out in the mean time.
Next batch of acts announced.

The line-up is getting better & better although I'm only planning to see 1 headliner.
I hope the other stages get some good names up the top end of the bill.
TM
I heard the Crue was on the Saturday night headlining the second stage. But tbh I'd rather sit in my tent than see Linkin Park lol
Finally ordered my tickets today :)
I was worried camping tickets woyld have gone by the time I got round to buying tham. I'm glad Download doesn't sell out as fast as other festivals seem to, although you can always get tickets easy enough I suppose.
The line up has finally been posted on the Download site (see first post).
As usual there are a few clashes and a few bands I would have like to have seen higher up the bill, Megadeth & Stone Sour come to mind. Also it looks like Korn and Velvet Revolver will overlap at some point :(
Got a link to where it has the full line up and what stages and positions etc? Nothing on the official site?
It was posted yesterday by a moderator on the official forums but the main site doesn't look to have been updated yet.

I suppose there is a possibility that it may change. The bands listed are confirmed:

This from Rioadrunners website...
Porcupine Tree are the latest addition of the Roadrunner roster to be confirmed to play this years Download Festival, which takes place at Donnington Park, Leicestershire between June 8th -10th.
Business just picked up :D
First post updated with todays batch of confirmations. Nice to see the second stage being named in memory of Dimebag.

For those that are going - and this'll interest you Bish, apparently they're having a Guitar Hero II competition, the winner walks away with a brand new Les Paul Geetar!!!
:D
I did read that, they had the same thing the other year, I'm crap at it but it's fun to watch. I'm sure it was on the Thursday night last time so if it's the same I might try to watch it again.
Don't know if theres a secret band this year (but everyone on the Download message boards seems to think so), but I saw The Cult were playing a tiny little show in London this week- that would be brilliant if they were at Donington!

I've been reading that Down were the secret band (same as last year), but this time playing on the Dimebag Stage.:thinking:

BTW, are the stage times up yet? I'd really like to get my clashometer sorted.

I can see VR and Hayseed Dixie wahey!
I'm still undecided whether to stay in the tent after Porcupine Tree and catch Enter Shikari & Korn or head off to the main stage and see VR

I'm deciding between seeing Dragonforce to the end & missing the beginning of Porcupine Tree (but hearing Through the Fire & the Flames), or vice versa.
Fingers crossed that Dragonforce open with TTF&TF then I can go see PT.
Then on Sunday, there's the whole Mastodon / Devil Driver / Lamb of God / Orange Goblin clash.
Each band I really want to see, but they all overlap.

Good to see them Webcast almost all the bands this year on the website. Just watched Stonesour, seemed pretty good.
I missed the Machine Head set yesterday as I was in town, but if you look around, a lot of these webcasts have been captures and available for Download. Getting the MH one now as apparently they owned the day.

Cheers for the heads up, just watching Maiden! :)
Same here - thanks from me too! Wish I could have been there, although the number of flying bottles beforehand looked a bit excessive! Has been great watching it online, though and Bruce stated it will be released on DVD at a later date, too.
Another interesting hint from Bruce just now that next year they are going to be doing something to celebrate the Powerslave album, which is a bit strange as by my calculations it will be the 23rd anniversary of release!

Does anyone know if some Download highlights are going to be on TV?
They will be on C4 at some point, not quite sure when, seem to remember they were a coupla weeks after the festival in previous years.
Agree with earlier posters about the quality of the webcasts, not a patch on being there, but the next best thing anyway :)

Yeah, I must echo the comments on the quality of the web casts, excellent stuff for fans to enjoy free, wish I'd known about it earlier :brickwall
I watched parts of webcast. Surprising good.
To anyone who saw Evanescence: Was Amy Lee stoned?

Is it it possible to download any of the streaming video from the download website?
Another awesome weekend of great live music. I saw plenty of great sets including geeks like Porcupine Tree. Machine Head were simply brutal even Slayer had a hard job following them.
All three headliners were superb (Replace MCR with koRn who totally rocked the packed out tent, which for those who don't know is proper sized tent with a full size stage not like the wendy house and knee high platform that you get at the Carling weekend :D)

Just a quick heads-up, highlights on CH4 tonight (Sat night/Sun morning) at 01:20-02:20 & some more tomorrow 00:55-01:55 :)
Also Scuzz have been showing some highlights as well. Mainly interviews with some on stage clips rather than full songs.
I thought Corey Taylor was pretty cool. Not the kinda humour you would expect from a Slipknot frontman lol.
On a different note, I've decided that I'll defo be going next year but obviously need some time to get up the cash for the tickets. Has Download ever sold out altogether? Also with the fact they are selling tickets for next year already at this years prices, should I be worried?
Compared to other festivals Download is a slow seller, camping tickets have sold out in previous years. They sold a few tickets straight after last years festival so I wouldn't worry.
