dont forget to sign up for maplin newsletter gets you £3 off if you spend £50 or more , not great but every little penny helps. and other voucherss if you spend more etc.
good find, but i really need to start keeping my externals all one brand or im gonna get confused.. cable city MAN cables everywhere :)
maxtor power supply works fine with seagate (and vice versa) :) *but im not responsible if you blow it up :p possibly same with others.
but agree its nice to keep them the same, im holding out for the 750gb seagate to be a nice price.

You could make an arguement for it being better to have different makes of hard drive (or at least different batches) as if one has a reliability issue the other is then a better backup.

Thanks, was going to get the 320gb one from pcworld last week for £79.99 but had no cash. I go to order it and then i find this.
I also added a 10 way surge protector that was half price at £13.49 and then used the £7 off £100 voucher.
Are these as good as a MyBook?

Yep, the dual-interface one has firewire and USB. This one is USB only. Still, a decent bargain. Picked one up today, ta OP.

Where is the surge protector half price? I need one of these. :)
Hmm... i'm really tempted by this - was going to get an internal 320gb drive, but this is only 20quid more...
How do the speeds compare to an internal one?

Yes, that's the one that I got. €147 (down from €362!) from Maplin in Dublin, they had stacks of them behind the counter.

just collected it and gave it a whirl - operates wonderfully!!
For those that already have one, do I need to partition this as NTFS or anything? I'm planning to dump a lot of files off my main PC's HDD running XP and was wondering if I could just drag and drop into the external drive?

you don't have to, it will be FAT32 from memory. It's quick to change it to NTFS from the disk manager area in XP though and didnt require a full format.

Mine was delivered yesterday, Very nice bet of kit.
For those who bought it, can you confirm that it is USB 2.0 only (no Firewire). And can you check the drive model number (look in Device Manager). Is it ST340083 2A? Thanks! :)

Ordered mine on Wednesday had it today. USB 2 only on mine.
Nice piece of kit - it comes FAT32 formatted but I reformatted it as NTFS and partitioned it up into 3 logical drives.
Seems OK - just copying some stuff onto it to see how it runs.
