My account has expired today, renewing it tonight, will I have to reregister or will I keep my details?

I'd guess all you need to do is select "Redeem voucher" (or whatever the term is on the dashboard, can't remember just now), put in the code on the card and that's it. Don't see any reason why you would need to re-register.

I could be wrong but if you reach the end of your period without contacting customer support, don't they automatically begin billing you on a monthly basis?

Only if you've used a credit/debit card I think.

Ah, right. I registered ages ago when cards were the only way; didn't realise there were other methods now.
Won't it just revert to a silver account? I dont have gold anymore, and it just went to a silver..have a code to redeem at some point, but i can still download demo's and the like?
i did the 30 free days of gold, it went to silver and i took about a month before going back to gold, just entered code and was back with full live almost instantly. no problems with gamertags or anything :)

I thought the automatic billing was back in the days of normal XBox Live, now on the 360 it just reverts to Silver?

Mine - which was an account for the first Xbox and then get used on the 360 - has been automatically renewed to a £39.99 12-month Gold account.
Kind of a shame really. I didn't pluck up the courage to get over my fear of phones in time, and before I knew it, the renewal happened. Guess I have to make the most of that £39.99 somehow this year.

I hope to (come June) cancel it and go to silver membership... whether that will happen by phoning them - who knows!!
does anyone know if the eBay (http://www.thedvdforums.com/jump2.php?url=http://www.tkqlhce.com/click-582776-5826355) live code auctions which state something along the lines of only good for US Live accounts, and only good for new accounts, not renewalsare telling porkies, or if I would be buying a turkey by going with one of these?

I know some codes are only for new accounts, but Im not sure about there being any certain region only issues.

Anyone had problems redeeming a gold membership code on an existing account?
I keep getting an error message whenever I try to redeem mine.

I phoned and cancelled before Christmas, then got a pre pay voucher in January. They mentioned that if you dont renew with-in 6 weeks you may loose the gamertag?
