View Full Version : Ebay feedback - I want to be fair

So here is story (I'll try and keep it fairly short) but I need to know etiquette on what feedback to leave because I am in a mood to neg...

I won item on 15th Dec and emailed immediately asking for postage charge (it wasn't on auction)... they emailed back immediately saying £8... I paid in full at that point via Paypal. So I paid the day the auction ended.

21/12/2006 I emailed asking what postage method was used and when it was sent... I realised 15th was close to Mxas but I hoped it would just arrive in time.

No reply (fair enough it was a long shot to get it for xmas anyway)

2/1/2007 I emailed again asking the same question

No reply

5/1/2007 I again emailed politely requesting details of posting date and method of posting used.

No reply

8/1/7 Due to no response to ANY emails since the first asking how much to pay... I open a paypal dispute (something I rarely do but this person gave me no option).

No reply to paypal whatsoever

15/1/7 (1 month after paying) Due to no response via paypal I escalate to a Paypal claim which gives the person 10 days to respond to my assertion that nothing has been received.

No reply via paypal...

23/1/7 (2 days before they have to respond otherwise Paypal act)... Item arrives without email or anything... parcel postage dated 22/1/2007

Before you all clamour saying. "don't be daft! neg her" the reason I hesitate is because they have another feedback from a few months back where item was slow in delivery (took 3 weeks) and they left a neutral as the item was in perfect condition etc.

So i wondered what etiquette for feedback was in these circumstances? I rarely hve to deal with numpties on ebay y'see

I'd leave a negative along the lines of "poor comms, slow delivery, paid 15/12/2006 , posted 22/01/2007".

Fair and factual.

It's really up to you.

The rudeness in not replying to any of your emails is, I would have found, the worst thing about this transaction (unless you were desparate for the Item).

I think she definitely deserves a neutral, if not a neg. I think I'd go for a neutral with an explanation about the time and lack of response to emails. Make it clear that the item was OK (assuming it was) to be fair.

I'd have to go with this one too.

neg - "no item or comms from seller until paypal claim filed - avoid"

Me too - although you're leaving yourself open to retaliatory neg from the seller....

Yeah I know but if everyone did that we'd all have perfect feedback :)

I have a reasonable feedback rating (over 350 with only 2 unjustified negs from about 3 yrs ago :) ) so i think i could take the hit.

I'll actually go test the item and make sure it works before a final decision :)

Still conflicted as item did arrive etc as someone makes the point further up... although it's really an unacceptable wait with no comms at all...

oooh decisions... decisions

EDIT - currently working on feedback and I've frankensteined the suggestions into one entry

"very poor comms, paid 15/12/2006 , posted 22/01/2007 after Paypal claim filed"

not poor comms - NO comms! Defo go with the neg - If he's that cluelss, he might not even bother to neg you back.....

Definitely go with the neg and the postage dates, however I would also put a comment in there saying the product itself was fine, just to be perfectly fair.
As others have said, the lack of comms is the worst part about it and others need to know what they are getting into if they buy from this seller.

It is risking a neg yourself, but you can minimise the risk of this - there is a set time period in which you can leave feedback, 60 days I think, so if you wait till 59 days 23 hours after the auction date you might be able to sneak a neg in there and not leave him enough time to respond ;)

Theres a new feedback system starting next month which i think will allow you to rate better - maybe wait until that is introduced?

I didnlt know about this but I found the details here
eBay (http://www.thedvdforums.com/jump2.php?url=http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-1751-2978-71/1?AID=5463217&PID=582776&mpre=http%3A//www2.ebay.com/aw/uk/200701.shtml%232007-01-22175209)

Seems like a great idea.

As for the OP I would probably go with neutral because he did actually get the item in the end.

I think it's 90 days, but apparantly it's very unreliable and people have been caught with retaliatories after the supposed limit has expired.

OTOH, this seller sounds as if she doesn't really spend much time on the activity so she may not even notice.

What was her feedback?

Actually her feedback was 170 with 1 neg and 2 neutrals... which wasnt bad

interstingly she never left feedback for the people who negged or neutralled her so I am probably safe anyhow
