Woo-Hoo!! Another season of young fit hunks (and ladeez) all stranded on a remote island.

Loving the episode so far.

I know Stuart!! I know him from the gym - all that gym filming was done at David Lloyd in Stevenage. :dork:

I hope this time they sink the island, especially if it's filled with just as many wastes of space as last time.

ShakeyJake

Is it battle of the islands again or have they gone back to the original sticking them all on an island and letting them get on with it format?

cjanderson
21-01-2007, 13:14
i think its battle again. (well thats the title)

and seems the first 10 are split by sex. not sure if newbies have to choose each week or go according to sex - must be choose else who decides the winner?

I liked the first 2 series of just muddle along and that was it. this new style seems duller.

battle of the islands again which is rubbish.

New ppl turning up every week which you never get to really know and see how they get on.

All anyone talks about is who is going to win the £70k split by 20 ppl ..boring

I wish it was on earlier though, classic hungover TV.

Possibly the most sexist thing i've heard on TV recently

"The role of the girls on the island is to you know, make things pretty."

said by one of the posh (doesn't narrow it down) girls!

Did I mishear or did she really say towards the start of the programme that she was for slavery?

so did i, was thinking "whatever gets you off"

does seem full of pretty young things, though if you were slightly overweight perhaps you'd be less over the moon to being filmed for 5 months in your bikini.

sure last year there were some more "normal" body shapes.

Nathan-Wind

It does seem a bit one dimensional at the moment. It'll get better, this muppets haven't a clue.

It's Shipwrecked? Don't expect anything more, the stars are as one-dimensional as they look :)

I'd agree with Channel 4's stance on this. Be interesting to know exactly what those 46 people complained about exactly. Lucy hasn't racially abused anyone in the programme, just stated her beliefs/opinions. It's not like the show is serving as a platform for her beliefs/opinions either.

ShakeyJake
22-01-2007, 17:17
All she said was she's never met any to have a positive opinion on them. It's no worse than saying "I've never eaten a banana so I don't like them". I think the more worrying thing was her views on bringing back slavery

Wonder how many complaints OFCOM have received about Trevor Philips saying the n-word during Andrew Marr's show on BBC on Sunday morning?

Typical double standards.

Number of complaints about Lucy has risen to 196!

This is so stupid! She's entitled to her views, she may be an insular **** but she's still entitled to think whatever she wants. This kind of thing shouldn't be what ofcom rules against as it would stray into worrying thought-police territory.

ShakeyJake
23-01-2007, 10:52
Everyone knows that throughout her stay on the island she'll come into to contact with these people and her views will change for the better, otherwise they wouldn't have bothered broadcasting it.

If anything it will be good her expressing these views as other who may think the same can join her in her voyage of discovery and maybe make them think a little differently as well.

Saber

I think it is clear that she is just being foolish rather than anything else, she buddied up quick to the other posh boy despite him being mixed race (I assume he is mixed).

On one hand I understand what she was saying as I went to private school myself but I guess mine was a bit more ethnically diverse than her's and most posh boys and girls know better than to solely base their views on the media's representation.

Sadly, we do live sheltered lives until it is off to university, I went to an ex-poly because I'm an idiot but I guess those that go off to Oxbridge probably don't expand their views much until they graduate, but then again I just assume Oxford and Cambridge is mostly white people because that's the way it is protrayed in the media.

Other than the slavery bit which I assume (hope) she meant within the context of having live in maids rather than a wipping hand I don't really see what she said that's so shocking. The newspapers are doing their usual thing of labelling it "Hate!" (why do they always do that?) but it was a throw away remark not a statement of political intent. I actually quite agree with her in a general sense about the "cultural" aspect, just because it was badly articulated doesn't make it totally incorrect.

23-01-2007, 23:57
Actually I didn't have much of a problem with her. Unlike Jade she doesn't come across as a hateful person just blinkered. I can see where she's coming from in some respects

Am I the only one who didn't notice that many Posh people? Lucy obviously and perhaps the Bristol girl (only slightly) and the guy Lucy was chatting to on Shark's who's from Notting hill

I'm a little confused by this. Are the episodes being shown this morning new or repeats?

MarkR

I was confused also as this mornings was supposed to be a repeat but I guess due to the controversay they bottled it and showed episode 2.
I have missed episode 1 now due to this. :(

just caught some of this and have 2 questions if anyone can help.

why were the two blond girls banished when the sharks visited?
i heard one of the girls say that paul wasn't a real royal marine, what did she mean?

loved how the girls thought they were playing the guy and he then turns and hands them it.

In the first week they both swam to the shark island to spy on them, which is against the rules so their punishment was that they could not attend the party.

I don't know what they meant by he was not a real marine, they went on to say he was not an officer, I'm not sure if that was the reason.

I forgot his name but the marine, well, he didn't strike me as being very hard, he said he was intimidated by the other guys standing around him while he built the thing, which seems odd.

Lorenzo really annoys me, he talks too much, over compensating I think.

The gay guy seems like another Badou, all he does is complain, he could at least attempt to build stuff, he doesn't have to be good at it, but at least put in an effort. Still, it was not very nice the way they said he could not live in the hut unless he helped.

Lianne is so :luv:
