I currently have the following kit:

Sony Dolby Digital Processor
Rotel Pro Logic Processor
Rotel RB-985 THX Power Amp

I was thinking about getting either a Denon 2802 or 3802 Amp.

Anyone got experience with the Denon amps.

I've had my 3802 for about a month. On the whole I'm very impressed with it.

I've found only one drawback. I have all my speakers set to large and the subwoofer set to LFE only. This is fine when listening to a 5.1 soundtrack. Unfortunately, when I switch to DPL II, nothing is sent to the subwoofer unless I change the setup to LFE+Main.

If you have 'small' effects speakers, then this wouldn't be an issue.

Some people have complained about the lack of bass from the front speakers in DPL II, but I think its fine.

I haven't tried the 6.1 modes - wife doesn't want any more speakers cluttering up the room :-(

It all depends what you are trying to achieve.
While I've not heard your setup compared to a Denon 3802, I'd be surpised if the Denon was any better, more likely the opposite.

That said, if it's DTS, DD6.1 (well sort of), DTS-ES and Prologic2 which tickles your fancy......

There are other options though as well, but the Denon is probably as good as anything else of it's ilk at similar money.

Thanks for your replies.

Think i'll get a demo of said amps, trouble is I need an amp with AC3 RF input for my laserdisc player, which neither of the Denons has. I may have to keep my Sony pro just for LD duties.

DTS ES is the main feature i'm after i've already pre-installed speaker wire under my false floor in preparation.:D

got a denon 2802 and very happy with it.

re: the ac3 rf input, cant you just buy one of
the external sony demodulators? sure I
looked through a site recently and saw them
listed still for sale but "last few".

probably on the forums, site also did
hardware upgrades for denon, pioneer amps & kit,
to add various features like rgb passthru
on the pioneer 717.
