Air have been one of my favourite bands for a while now - 2004's Talkie Walkie was the best album of that year, in my own "end of year poll" (!). The new album is due out in early March but I heard two tracks last night on French radio - they sounded excellent, and very similar to the previous album.

I think (if I picked up the French correctly) they have got Jarvis Cocker and Neil Hannon on the album, which is produced again by Nigel Godrich. I think the same crew did the Charlotte Gainsbourg album last year.

Anyway, if these two tracks are anything to go by, Pocket Symphony will be a cracker.

Cheers for that, big Air fan here too. Though I find the early stuff to be their best esp. Premiers. Enjoyed the Charlotte Gainsbourg album as well. Will investigate...

It's leaked so I've heard the entire thing - need to give it a few more spins though before I pass judgement. Really liked the last one so I've got high hopes for this :)

I like Moon Safari, but found their later albums just didn't have that quality.

I have to say that MS would probably be well up there in my top 50

I've had a few listens through and I think its pretty good! The Neil Hannon track is better than the stuff on the recent album, and the Jarv track is very "This is Hardcore" and again IMO better than anything on 'Jarvis'!!

It's very mellow, even by Air standards!

I think this is pretty poor to be honest, very mediocre. It's like the last one (which I thought was excellent) but without the songs, more a collection of musical ideas which meander then stop. The song with Jarvis is awful, as is the Neil Hannon one. Very disappointing!

I really love Moon Safari and The Virgin Suicides albums, they are in my most listened to pile by a long way, but 10,000HZ Legend and Talkie Walkie are definitely not in my favourites list so not sure if I would like this either...

I'll give it a try though as I would want to be proved wrong.

Problem with Air is that Moon Safari is so good that they can never match up to it. I haven't found any songs or albums that comes close. Alone in Tokyo is possibly the closest in recent years.

I've listened to the new album a few times and its a grower. There is a good mix of tracks on there and the sound is clean and crisp. Top notch

Sounds a tad dull on first listen.

Thier 2nd album 10,000hrz has to be on the list of great lost albums.

Shame they gave up on that direction for the safe, keeping the record company happy talkie walkie.

I have to agree Mr M, remember feeling very disappointed when it originally came out but it's probably the only Air album I play regularly right now. Probably their most adventurous album.

Enjoyed Talkie Walkie in bits (think Alone in Kyoto is the best thing they've ever done), so will still check it out when it's released.

Me too, I think Talkie Walkie is a superb album. I've now heard three tracks from the new one and it sounds similar to Talkie Walkie in style, as I said. The Jarvis Cocker one sounds ruddy dreadful to my ears, his voice is all over the shop.
