Is this one better than the £25.99 one from forum sponsor bigpockets?

Much the same I would imagine. I think big pockets charge postage though which brings it to a similiar price

SVP had the Datawrite 4Gb USB Pen drive at £24.99 but appear to have sold out for the moment. Possibility remains for a further drop?

just fyi - have a 4gb datawrite drive, and while it works well it is incredibly slow compared to my 2 corsair drives - performance is known to be a problem, but no problems otherwise.

2 year warranty with the Buffalo and from looking at the Datawrite reviews I think the Buffalo looks the better.

We also have the Sumvision version at £25.99, the quoted speeds are slower than the Datawrite ones but in real life performace the Sumvision seems faster to me.

Also formatting the drives when you get them can help with any speed issues you may have.

My 4gb Datawrite stick is dog-slow - the slowest flash memory I've ever had. Unusably slow for large files, which is what I bought it for in the first place, ironically enough. It's so slow, it even spends a while locking up the computer before it starts to save onto the stick (very slowly).

I'll try the formatting idea to see if it makes any difference.

EDIT: Formatted the stick and am copying a 2.8gb file. It took five minutes for the "Copying..." dialogue box to appear (!) and according to XP, it's going to take another 15 minutes to copy the 2.8gb file across.

EDIT2: Even deleting the file from the stick takes ages! Seriously, things are so much faster using a 4gb memory stick duo connected via USB on my PSP.

Anyone found how slow these are yet? Would you format them as FAT32?

Bobo Justus

I assume they are already FAT32.

Mine is 'Dispatching Soon'.

nope, you can get a 16Gb USB drive from Corsair - not sure who sells them though.

Scan (http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductInfo.asp?WebProductID=514882) sell the 16gb version, only £150 odd! (No affiliate link for scan?)

Just did a lil test with a 350mb file against my 1gb sumvision and its 2secs slower... not much to worry about really.

Ive used my 1gb one to plug into my divx dvd player to play files and the video is not choppy at all. Hope the same goes for this one.

Got mine and I'm very pleased with it. It's VERY small so fits in my wallet perfectly. The end cap secures very well when it's on and off (fits on the back).

I've secured the data on it just in case. It takes forever to transfer 4GB but as long as you're not James Bond with the baddies just around the corner ready to kill you that's not a problem :D

Great price and way below anything else of this quality.

I see these may be suitable for Vista's ReadyBoost mentioned here (http://www.grantgibson.co.uk/misc/readyboost/?make=Buffalo) Not actually on the list but since they are newer drives hopefully they are. My drives says Buffalo RUF2-E 4GB but Amazon list it as Buffalo RUF-C4G

Can anyone check? Mine is full of files (which I'll delete later to try) but when I check the properties it does say ReadyBoost but not enough free space.

4GB increase in my PC's RAM for £28?

No ReadyBoost option with Vista with my testing. Pity.

Bobo Justus

Dropped to £19.99.

I think Amazon still refund the difference if you claim within 30 days. Too late for me!

Not quite how it works unfortunately... Vista just uses the flash memory to speed up cache type operations that otherwise would've gone to the HD.

are you guys going for the 19.99 or 23.99 one? The 19.99 one looks like it isn't a Buffalo drive.

Jimlad

not great speeds on these drives, i would wait for the prices to keep falling or spend a little more money now and get a good transfer rate, these are not that fast.

anyone know of a fast 4GB thumb drive which is Vista 'ReadyBoost' compatible?

James45

I see these may be suitable for Vista's ReadyBoost mentioned

Custom PC found that Ready Boost actually made their PC slower this month! Apparently it's a nice idea for the future but doesn't work now.

I'd go with the Buffalo, aren't they usally good for their HDDs?

Any tried with with ReadyBoost yet?
