View Full Version : Ebay buyer is abroad despite my 'UK only' listing - options ?

I only ask because a last second bidder from Belgium came in and bought my item despite the listing saying I'd post UK only (I had not listed anything other than UK shipping.) I have emailed to say I will do it as a gesture of good faith but it will cost you etc. But no reply. I would rather make a second chance offer and lose a quid or two, to be honest. (Even worse, I did this as a favour for the non-Ebay-using mother of my daughter's friend so I don't want to arse about.)

What do you reckon ?

Avoid.

Not worth going through the hassle. As you listed UK only, you do not have to sell it abroad. Better to offer a 2nd chance offer, or relist it.

If you do still want to post it abroad, thoroughly check out the Belgium guys feedback and see if there's anythin a bit 'dodgy'.

I listed as UK only and some guy from Spain won. I mailed him and said I didn't mind posting it to him, but that I would charge extra for postage, which he was happy with.

He may want it mailed to a UK address as I do sometimes (but usually e-mail the seller to let them know this). Then again if he's a Belgian, who knows? ;)

You do have an option with Ebay to block non UK bidders, which I have enabled by default.

What is the item?

It's a pink GBA SP.

Thanks for the replies, guys. Obviously, I need to now block non-UK bids.

I sell loads of stuff overseas but would never sell anything electrical to a non UK bidder. In this case I would just say you can't send it and go with the 2nd chance offer

If you choose to relist, make sure you get a 'mutual agreement' on your abondonment of the sale. That way you can get your fees back. I'm not sure how you do it (only ever been on the recieving end), but it's really simple for the buyer who just has to agree to the terms and click a button.

I have just had someone from America use 'Buy it Now' to purchase an electrical item for the best part of £300, despite making it clear that I would only post to the UK. I have emailed and messaged him but have recieved no reply - should I just relist the item? There is no way I'd ship abroad, and if he wanted me to send it to an address in the UK he should have got in contact with me. Will ebay return all the fees etc?
Cheers,
JB

did you actually say UK only, or did you assume a bidder would realise it because you only listed UK shipping ?

No I said UK only, and the postage said UK only too. The buyer has now replied and wants to pay from Western Union in Russia and for me to send it to his younger brother in Nigeria :oh-hum: .
However, when I try to file a dispute with ebay to get them to credit the fees (as these come to £10 with the final selling fee), it says I cannot file a dispute until January 18th! If I go to relist it says that relisting without filing a dispute means I am not eligible for any credit back. I don't want to wait till January 18th to resell my item, but am not prepared to pay a tenner in fees due to some scammer...
any suggestions?
JB
