Bubble Boy
Crazy/Beautiful
Fast & The Furious
Final Fantasy
Heartbreakers
Jurassic Park 3
Legally Blonde
or anything recentish that supposed to be good....

Haven't had a chance to order too much recently, so I'm looking for a few new/newish titles to buy, but haven't seen any of these, and don't want to buy complete crap if I can buy something decent instead!

Heartbreakers + Legally Blonde - Seen it all before, rehashed into average films... I'd give Heartbreakers the edge over the two though cos of JLH.

For another recent-ish film, I definately reccomend 'Sexy Beast'. Fantastic performance by Ben Kingsley. :)

theres nothing there that id consider a keeper dude, apart from maybe tfatf...if youre looking for recentish stuff to get, id go with an r4 moulin rouge, and an r1 almost famous bootleg - both v.cool :)

Bubble Boy - haven't seen.

Crazy/Beautiful - a fairly good romantic film, Kirsten Dunst as always is delightful.

Fast & The Furious - nice cars, bad script, bad acting - works the Amp though.

Final Fantasy - worth a watch, could of been better.

Heartbreakers - haven't seen.

Legally Blonde - Reese Witherspoon does Clueless, was a suprise 'hit' at the cinema. Again, if you can pick it up cheap then have a look - quite funny in places.

Newish recommendations -
M*A*S*H - The Movie (http://www.play.com/play247.asp?page=title&r=R1&title=97635) and also M*A*S*H - Season 1 Collectors Edition (http://www.play.com/play247.asp?page=title&r=R1&title=97636) and finally the R4 of Moulin Rouge (http://www.ezydvd.com.au/item.zml/219328/id=qmzo2:q4Qww) if you like that sort of thing :D

Almost forgot, the excellent Almost Famous Bootleg Cut (http://www.play.com/play247.asp?page=title&r=R1&title=96819)

Don't bother with Fast & The Furious, its god awful. Final Fantasy is worth a look, but rent before you buy coz it ain't great or a keeper.

I'm tempted by Legally Blonde as [1] It's been getting pretty good reviews, [2] Resse Witherspoon........and even if I hate it, I supposed someone will get a bargain on the forums.

I heard F&TF had a great DTS soundtrack, but if it lacks a story, I'll give it a miss.

Almost Famous was OK IMO, so whether I buy the 3 disc set, I don't know....

Definately getting Futurama, Evil Dead and AI when they come out, and American Pie 2.........Seen Cats & Dogs from the internet, and that seems a good buy, but not R2 due to the snapper case.....

Half the titles up for pre-order at say *********, I've never heard of.....last year I knew what everything was about, so I must be really falling behind now!

Fast and the Furious - a few reasonable action scenes strung together with a plot nicked from another film but I won't say witch one for fear of being hounded by the spoiler police. Good sound work out for your system.

Final Fantasy - I really enjoyed it. In fact I bought it, agreed to sell it before watching it, saw it then bought it again. The plot is a mish mash of lots of other films but it is quite a staggering technical achievement. It could have been better but I thought it was well worth watching.

Heartbreakers - OK. Excellent turn from Gene Hackman but nothing special.

Legally Blonde - I have no idea why I wanted to watch this, not my cup of tea at all... but I was pleasantly surprised. If you are after a light, fluffy comedy then you could do much, much worse.

I'm sure you'll pick them up at a decent price in the classifieds.

Can I also just add that I thought Moulin Rouge was... I can't even think of the words for it. It certainly didn't bake my cake though. I wouldn't say it's bad - just uninvolving. I didn't care about the characters (caricatures). It didn't work for me as a comedy, as a drama or as a musical - I guess it was trying to be all three. Looked good though.

The three best new films Ive seen recently are:

Baby boy - fantastic performances from the leads and a great story, had me hooked from start to finish.

The Score - Thought this was great, only if you like the lead actors and the story, robbery with a twist. Edward Norton and Deniro Im a great fan of though.

American Pie 2 - Just as good as the first.

3 keepers from about 17 discs I bought for christmas.

As for your titles.

Crazy/beautiful - worth a watch without doubt, romance without the cheese but a bit slow and I never really cared what happened to them.

Jurassic Park 3 - better than the second by far but still a bit shallow, again worth a watch. Doesnt even work the amp that much. pah!

Heartbreakers I thought was exellent. One of those light hearted good to watch when your bored, cant make up your mind, nothing jumps out of the rack at you type films.

Legally Blonde passed by me a little, probably as I dont really like whats her face....... Witherspoon.

TFATF Ive yet to watch but from what I have seen it looks FANTASTIC and sounds FANTASTIC without doubt a demo disc.

I either avoided or loathed all the films you listed; The Fast and the Furious is the pick of the bunch, but it's desperately flawed (although I'm 100% sure it's a magnificent test disc).

Save your pennies for <i>AI</i>, <i>Tombstone</i> or, if you're feeling adventurous, <i>Asoka</i>, which is magnificent.

The only film to avoid out of that lot is JP3 which is complete toss.

Final Fantasy - I fell asleep at the pictures 4 times during this one so it must be good .Got it for the kids, watched it again and fell asleep again...poor film but looks good.

Heartbreakers - Sigourney Weaver

JP3 - Average

Moulin Rouge - Watching later on.

Bubble Boy - Not seen.

Crazy/Beautiful - Alright teen romance, Kirsten Dunst is pretty good again. £13 at Ringos.

Fast & the Furious - Pleasantly surprised. Great DTS soundtrack. Spolit by unoriginal storyline and abit of duff acting.

Final Fantasy - Sci-fi storyline is abit wishy washy. Great visuals and sound with loads of good extras. R1 is RCE btw, try R4 for cheapness.

Heartbreakers - Another that pleasantly surprised. Alright performances from a great cast but Jason Lee stands out. PLus Jennifer Love Hewitt in loads of different states of undress, hubba, hubba.

Jurassic Park 3 - one of the worse films I saw last year. And Teo Leoni got on my wick.

Legally Blonde - Like someone else said, Reese Witherspoon does Clueless. Although I would put this comedy above many of the higher profile comedies out last year.

Others to look out for are the aforementioned Moulin Rouge, Almost Famous Bootleg, Swordfish, Enemy at the Gates, Bridget Jones Diary, Mony Python and the Holy Grail, Shrek and a few more I have forgot.

This was mentioned on another thread as a contender for worst film of 2002 - for me it's worth a watch. It's coming out in the cinema over here soon (Been delayed I think!)

I think it's just 90 minutes of slapstick humour.

the imdb dosent give a too bad impression of rat race (http://us.imdb.com/Title?0250687) ...its usually a decent barometer, and the 7.2 it gets beats road trip/both american pies, so it might be worth a look if you like that sort of thing :)

I’ve seen Rat Race and I nominated it for "worst movie". It’s a lame piece of crap that is painful to watch. I’ll post a full review in the proper forum later today. I dare say as the year unfolds and the tide of inevitable rubbish unfolds upon us it may end up being one of the better releases by virtue of it not sucking as badly as other flicks.

Bear in mind most of the IMDB reviews are from Americans who are slightly more easily pleased when it comes to comedy than the rest of the world.

Fast & The Furious - Bilge - utterly dreadful - worst film of last year (yes, even worse than Tomb Raider or Mummy Returns)

Heartbreakers - A Minor diversion, JLH wears some great booby showing clothes in it.

Jurassic Park 3 - I enjoyed this, apart from Tea Leoni

Legally Blonde - Better than average, just.

Why something recentish - indulge yourself with Criterions of "Seven Samurai" or "Discreet Charm of the Bourgeousie". Try out the 3 disc version of "Suspiria". Wait a couple of weeks for the R2 "Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy".

If you must go recent, "almost famous - bootleg" the extended version is damn good. "Moulin Rouge" R4 - crisp picture, excellent sound.

OR, just spend £10.00 and buy LA Confidential, if you ain't already got it. Transfer is adequate, sound is o.k. - film is BRILLIANT!!!!! :D

Saw Rat Race on Monday for free and was pretty unimpressed. It's basically a re-hash of the comedy from Cannonball Run, Smokey and The Bandit, and the National Lampoon films in one neat little package. Haven't seen Road Trip but the humour was much more family-orientated slapstick than American Pie with no teenage/sex type jokes, so I'm not sure it's comparable...

Worst film of 2002? I doubt it, I did laugh a couple of times and I'm sure there'll be a few 'comedies' that fail to raise even a smile, along with the usual star 'vehicles'....who knows, after Drivel it'll be 'interesting' to see what Stallone's in next.

Simon

P.S. If anyone does see it, I thought "Coconut" was the funniest moment, and that's not a spoiler before anyone complains....

You mean it's a sort of Scary Movie 2 / Not Another Teen Movie sort of thing where they try too hard to have a "joke" every few secs, most of which don't work?

Fast & The Furious is complete clag... walked out of this at the cinema... very much a test disc for your audio system, though. Blew my head off in a DTS equipped cinema.

Final Fantasy looks nice but is somewhat plotless

Heartbreakers is acceptable enough and the DVD is pretty comprehensive.

Legally Blonde is an interesting disc in that it has a pop-up-video style feature of trivia which makes it worth a look. The film is just average, very "clueless".

Haven't seen half of them, but of the ones I have:

Final Fantasy: The visuals are great. The score is amazing, but the story's a bit too 'new age' for it's own good. They spent so much time and money getting it 'photo-realistic' they forgot to write a decent script. Shame. The disc is supposed to be demo quality though.

Legally Blonde: Excellent. Extremely funny. Kinda 'Clueless goes to college'. If you liked Clueless, you'll probably like this. Plus it's got Reese Witherspoon, Selma Blair & Ali Larter in it :D

Heartbreakers: Highly entertaining. Both Sigourny & Jennifer look great, plus Ray Liotta & Gene Hackman are both pretty funny. Good set of extras on the disc too. (I have a copy up for sale here (http://www.thedvdforums.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=44009)) ;)

Jurassic Park 3: Good dumb fun. Ooh look, Dinosaurs! Run! Munch munch munch. Repeat until budget runs out.

The only one i've seen is TFATF and its the worst film i saw in 2001. Planet of the apes is the only other thing that came close. POTA was more disappointing because I thought it would be alright but TFATF is horrible.
