Hi,

Got a mate who wants a dirt cheap DVD player - anyone got any recent experience of the £99 type deals around?

Cheers,
Andy

Just bought a Reoc A3 from Safeways for my sister and it seems really good for the money. Only downside is a lack of DTS support but that won't affect her.

Funny enough I bought my sister a DVD player for Christmas, an Cyberhome 528 from WH-Smith. I thought it was excellent quality for £99, especially with it being multi region and plays MP3's.

Happy hunting!

The £99 Dansai from Tesco is probably the most popular at the moment.
Not surprising really, as its much better built than the Cyberhome (no noisy drive unit and much fewer reports of faults). The Cyberhome is the other big seller at £99.

Its got an easy hack to enable multiregion AND to disable macrovision (so you can back up DVDs onto VHS - including R1 as it can output PAL50).
Plays DVD,VCD,SVCD,CDR,CDRW and MP3 discs.

There are other £99 players - but there is not enough feedback on them yet to know if they are as good as the Cyberhome and Dansai.
P.S the Naiko (available at Makro) is a Dansai clone- so is a good buy too.
