Well that was an interesting (and very busy) weekend!
To kick-start my business and get in some more practice for I did a promotional-price shoot at the stabes where I ride and have a horse on loan. Basically a 'here's lots of pics, buy them if you want them' thing.
Saturday was taken up with portraits, conformation shots and lessons (where the instructor kindly made all the more advanced groups practice show jumping so I had some good stuff to take pics of), and Sunday was mainly little kiddies on the lead rein. This was in addition to me having to fix a computer for the yard owner and supervise someone else for their NVQ practice all at the same time so I was a tad busy.
There was a potential near disaster after a couple of hours on Saturday when the battery I'd spent the previous night charging suddenly failed (probably the cold) and I had to send my wife back to the car to get the spare one which luckily lasted the rest of the day. There was also an amusing thing of one of the girl's dad who I've never seen there before and probably never will again chose that particular day to turn up with his camera to take pics of her (personally I would have waited until the summer when it was a bit warmer but there you go). Now I know how wedding photographers feel :)
Anyway I've manged to sell quite a few so far and orders are still dripping in from various people, but I've at least paid for my camera and liability insurance for the year now!
It's also interesting to hear client's opinions on things. I had some pics which I thought were nice dismissed out of hand because the horse wasn't standing perfectly correctly, or its ears were slightly back, or the rider thought their position wasn't spot on etc, and other pics I hadn't looked twice at because the lighting was bad or similar they loved! Oh well :)
Anyway here's a few pics...
I had about 20 seconds to set this shot up before the horses got bored and decided it was much more fun to play around and try and bite each other

Some vague attempt at an 'arty' shot - now you can see why I never get any votes in the forums compo :)
