cant play my mate on xbox 360 !

I know this sounds simple enough but how do i play my mate on pro evo 6, we both have the games in and running, but when i press the (X) on my controller and see friends and then click on his profile it wont let me play him.

Do we have to create a game and another has to join it ?

yes mate go on player match then set up a match and while you are creating a match if says play against frineds and put it to yes when you have created the room go on ur frineds list and invite him 2 the game and then just wait and he should join
