imode phones & MP3

This question comes from a position of complete ignorance:

Is it possible to play MP3's as a ring tone on an imode mobile phone? The specific phone is a Samsung S401i. My daughter has put an MP3 on this phone, but can't get it to play as a ring tone it generates an error message 'not allowed'.

Is there any way around this?

It's probably specific to that phone - I have an i-mode Z320i and it happily lets me use any MP3 file as a ringtone.
