Looking for a cheap present. Seen some in Tesco's , Sim I think it was called. Are there any to avoid ? Looking at the sub £25 ones.
Comes down to what connectors are required. Homebase have a digihome one which has a scart socket, aerial in and out and a remote for £19.99 Can do now and next 7 day epg mheg5 and updatable (so probably do the 14 day epg next year).

Get the Wharfedale from Argos for £29.95. It has two scarts, LCD display on the front (rare, time or channel number) and you can even set reminders (also rare). I has a 7 Day EPG too.
I bought one and am well impressed (Xmas present). It's also got rave reviews here (from others who've bought one): http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/article/ds25127.html
I don't think you'll get better below £35. More info here: http://www.avforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=423998
Two scarts is a must if you want to plug it into your TV and Recorder at the same time, some only have 1 which is bound to cause problems down the line.
It's definitely worth paying the extra £5 to get a nice one. Really cheap ones most have no end of problems, look basic (it's an Xmas present after all) and have only scart socket. I'd also recommend noting down the model number and seeing what people think at Digital Spy above.
Ive got one of the Wharfedales from Argos and had it for close to a year.Found it to be a really good box most of the time.I ended up getting a Topfield5800 to replace it so dont use it much any longer.
