There's a new series starting soon, I think it's going straight to Channel 4, not E4 first.

The recent "Top Ten TV Cop Shows" (Channel 5 I think) had some on-set interviews, and there were a few new faces amongst the regulars.

A few of the old favourites such as Kim Delaney (Detective Russell),Rick Schroder (Detective Sorenson) and James McDaniel(Lieutenant Fancy)have all left. Most notable amongst the newcomers is Mark-Paul Gosselaar from Saved By the Bell fame.

certainly hasn't stopped being made, as indicated above. just for some reason channel 4 decided to start screwing over us british fans both during and after season 7. they haven't shown a single new episode (or any repeats for that matter) since the final episode of season 7 aired over here in late summer 2000. a few months after that season 8 started in the states and we still haven't seen hide nor hair of it!

in fact, we're now so far behind that episode 9 of season 9 was shown on US tv last night! so we're now a season and a half behind and counting. furthermore, C4 also owe us one episode from season 7, who murders sleep, that was pulled because of the whole sarah payne farce (i'm referring to the outbreak of national insanity, vigilantism and tabloid exploitation, not the tragic death of the girl herself) due to 'similarities' and still hasn't been shown since. on top of that, C4 also messed with the order of the other episodes around it.

there is a number you can call at C4 for information but i've lost it. i imagine they will show season 8 soon but there is really no reason for us to have any faith in them anymore.

Channel 4, ITV, BBC1 - who can tell the difference anymore? All of them seem happy to edit, delete, cancel and move shows at whim. C4s treatment of The Fugitive is also pretty crappy - edited for violence to fit the ridiculous 6pm Friday time slot it’s now been buried at midday on Saturday. I fully expect it to run for under 30 minutes now.

Another tidbit - both C4 and ITV have increased the frequency of their ad-breaks last year to the point now where I find it impossible to watch "live" commerical TV as we’re being forced to sit through 3-4 minutes of ads every 10-12 minutes. Recording the shows and watching them later sans ads is the only sane way to view these days.

I hope that Channel 4 doesn't give NYPD Blue the same treatment that Homicide received. They shifted Homicide into a middle of the night time slot and didnt show the last series.

Thought people might be interested to know that Channel 4 still have no plans to show any NYPD Blue, this was posted by the spokesman who answers questions on the Reach4 forum last Friday:

NYPD Blue
posted by C4 Viewer Enquiries on 16:56 11/1/2002

"There is till no news on this at all. I am trying to find some sort of time scale, but it just isn't in the schedules at all yet. As soon as there is even a whisper of news, I will post something here. I know you are all frustrated, but your persistance with this is recorded daily and reported to the senior members of staff at Channel 4."

nice work mate. just been over to check that forum out at channel 4 and there has been a real swell of support for getting the show back on air since that 'viewer enquiries' post. there is a group of regular posters who are now posting every day on that thread in an attempt to get through to whoever makes the decisions - and according to 'viewer enquiries' they are listening.

i've just posted there in support of the show myself and i suggest that everyone here who loves NYPD Blue go over to the Reach4 forum (http://www.channel4.com/forums/c4_forumframeset.cfm?forum=reach4) and do the same.

Thought people might be interested in the latest response from Channel 4 Senior Management Team, following the campaign/petition on the Reach4 forum:

"Channel 4 has built up a reputation for bringing to the UK the best in American programming and 'NYPD Blue' for some years played an important part of that portfolio. Unfortunately although well loved by its fans it is not as popular as it once was, added to which we also like to make room for new, fresh programmes in the schedule. Last year we added 'West Wing' and 'Will & Grace' to our line up.

We are also required by our licence to maximise the amount of home grown originated drama and we plan to increase the number of hours of UK drama over the next two years.

All of which means that at present there is no peak time slot available for us to schedule NYPD Blue."

This does not sound at all promising... :(

Pathetic. C4 is only good for plugging E4 and FilmFour. It’s clear they don’t give a **** about the "non-payers".

this is bad news - C4 can find the time to air toss like Bar Wars and Hollyoaks but not class drama like NYPD Blue or world-class sport like the Tour de France.

The mind boggles and they appear to have lost the plot.

I read yesterday on Chatterbox on Ceefax that someone had received a e-mail from Channel 4 to say that NYPD Blue has been dropped due to a lack of viewers. Not unexpected news after the way it's been treated but a shame.Lets hope that Channel 5 pick it up.

    :(

Apart from Frasier is there anything else worth watching on C4 these days

Legendary
23-05-2002, 13:02
That right Frasier is only worth watching on Channel 4 (Hollyoakes on E4)

But ER, Friends, and Ally McBeal can be watched but next week ITV Digital will stop broadcasting E4 ;-(

So it is a pain in the arse. Channel 4 is too obsesssed with Big Bore 3

well, it may still be a no-show on channel 4 but at least there is finally some good news about NYPD Blue on the DVD front! this is from 'thedigitalbits.com':We've got some good Fox news for you today. We've been able to confirm with our sources that the studio is working on a DVD release of the first season of 24. Look for it to hit stores in time for the broadcast debut of season two. Fox is also working to bring Malcolm in the Middle and NYPD Blue to DVD in complete season sets.

off-topic.. a little... but this week's CSI on Saturday has David Caruso in it.

I gather he's the boss in the spin-off CSI Miami similar to William Petersen's Grissom.

good choice... he was always excellent in NYPD Blue, the first 2 series. presume he's back to TV with his tail between his legs after doing little in films.

I missed Jimmy Smits when we left also.. both were class with Dennis Franz... pretty sure I know which is the better actor though. (the aforementioned Mr Franz).

worth a watch anyway.. Ch5 9pm Sat for Mr Caruso if you're interested.

Definitely, I used to feel the same about Oz but luckily now have E4.

back on topic...

still no UK news, C4 or otherwise, but i see here (http://www.stwing.upenn.edu/~sepinwal/nypd.html) that there is now a date for the first episode of the tenth season - 24th september.

that's how far behind we are now people! and...

having seen an old NYPD episode listed on isonews, i'm hunting down recent episodes on IRC beginning with season 8. as soon as there's any success with this (don't anyone hold their breath though!) i'll post here and arrange copying.

so ... "F--- YOU!" channel 4! :)

[previous statement my own opinion, and does not represent the opinion of this forum as a whole nor any of its moderators/owners]

that 10th season date of course refers to the show in the US and not here!

just wanted to clear that up (and couldn't post above because i didn't want the last line to look like an enforced edit!)

some further info for those interested:

After the last few seasons of wandering in the ABC schedule wilderness, "NYPD Blue" will be back in its usual Tuesday at 10 p.m. timeslot, beginning on Sept. 24.

The 10th season premiere is being billed as the 200th episode by ABC, although it's actually something like the 198th. (The actual figure is tricky to figure out, depending on how you want to count the various two-hour episodes.) The network is fudging the numbers to give the new season an extra promotion boost, and the first new episode will be immediately preceded by a one-hour retrospective special.

There will be no additions or subtractions to the cast. There was briefly discussion of Kim Delaney returning, but that's not going to appen.

200th episode say 4 episode on each DVD that mean 50 DVDs and about 500 quids worth of DVD to buy if you want to buy every single one.

Still it would be nice to see Andy Sipowitchz slapping people.
