Out of stock at the moment but was in last night when my brother spotted and promptly ordered it at that price.

Blimey, that is a good price!!!! :D
I might be in the market for a 5.1 system for my 360 and did briefly look at this but it was £240 at most of the websites I looked at...
I'm also considering one of the Logitech 5.1 systems (5400,5450 or 5500) too and hoping that maybe they'll get reduced somewhere...
Thanks for the heads up on this,I could be tempted to get this at £150!!!! (That's assuming they get stock in though!)

Doesn't seem so, which is a bit of a shame.

Why would it? Its a set of speakers not a video switch.
Surely the 100 notes saved over everywhere else could go a long way to buying a £20 AV switch?
Now back in stock!!!
Ordered mine earlier... :D
Nice one OP for the heads up!!!

went for one too, it should complement my new HD-DVD player.
My brothers turned up yesterday (he managed to get one ordered before they went out of stock on Monday night). Seems to be chuffed with it so far.

Really tempted to go for this. Read about quite a few people buying it for £300 only a few weeks ago on avforums.
am tempted to go for this... just trying to search for more info though - is it htpgs1 or htsgs1? both are mentioned on the play page and google returns roughly the same number of results for either.

you lot should feel bad for me - i bought this on the wednesday for £269.99 at play :( it'd only been come out on the monday. by friday it was 149.99! how cruel is that
You have 7 days to return goods under the distance selling regulations I believe hannay.
You have 7 days to return goods under the distance selling regulations I believe hannay.
I emailed them & rang them and both times they said tough. Apparently they have to be unopened to be returned :(
although, have you a link to info mentioning the above?
http://www.oft.gov.uk/Business/Legal/DSR/default.htm
They have to legally give you 7 days to examine the goods and you can return them without any reason. You can't examine the goods without opening the box so as long as it is complete and resellable you can return it.
Edit: Just as a side note, the DSR ovverride any site specific returns policy because they are legislation.
actually, i've had it just over 7 days now - it arrived last wednesday, ordered the tuesday after looking back :(
its one of those things - live and learn. i've never known an item to drop in price like that within a week of launch though. very annoying.
If it had been 3 months, 6 months etc i would not be fussed with the price drop, but within 5 days? :(
If you notified them of your intentions within 7 days the DSR still apply. Anyway, i'm sidetracking the thread, so apologies.
thanks fly - i'll pursue one more time :)

7 WORKING days is it not?
"Where the supplier supplies the information to the consumer on time, the cooling-off period is 7 working days from the day after the date of the contract, in the case of services, or from the day after the date of delivery of the goods."
That gives you till today to notify them

Can someone tell me if I will be able to connect this to my laptop which has 2 inputs (for headphone and speaker)?
Yes mate, there is a set of analog L+R inputs on the back of the unit too. Just need a headphone to stereo phono lead and you will be set.
Just a quick post for those who have ordered/thinking of ordering...
I've just checked my account and it appears that my kit has gone out via Parcelfarce 24 so it should be that it's next day delivery (Which beats Plays usual standards for shipping!!!!)
recieved today. They sound great.
no messing around with the speaker calibrations either, it has a microphone that you place in your seating position and the setup is automatic.
did anyone else notice the Subwoofer connector covers the Speaker Out port? I'm wondering if that's why it's cheap?

The DSR don't apply to Play because they are based in Jersey. They have a 7 day returns policy for unwanted goods, but they can set their own conditions.

Apparently not that great a unit :(
Cnet give it 5.7/10
The good: Aesthetically matches your Xbox 360; compact design; included remote also controls your game console; Pioneer's auto setup is a breeze; virtual surround option lets all speakers sit up front.
The bad: The sound is subpar for a home-theater-in-a-box at this price; no video inputs.
The bottom line: The HTP-GS1 will match your Xbox 360 and rock out on games, but there are better packages for your money.

Go to the pioneer website and download the manual and it will show you everything you need to know even all the connections.

Might be worth remembering that you can get the Spherex (http://www.richersounds.co.uk/showproduct.php?cda=showproduct&pid=SPHE-XBOX-5.1-PACK) for £200 I'm very impressed with mine.
Not sure about the neighbours thoughts though ;)
Considered this offer but I picked up the Logitech® Z-5450 Digital 5.1 Speaker System for £199 on ebay - this has some wireless rear speakers (that need to be plugged into the mains).
I emailed them & rang them and both times they said tough. Apparently they have to be unopened to be returned :(

Why not order @ the lower price, when you receive the 2nd set return that - obviously it will then be unopened! Maybe if you call once more and say you will do this they will refund the difference as it creates hassle for all involved @ the end of the day?

Same here, wonder how it compars to my Yamaha RX-V350S amp and speaker package.
Can anyone tell me how big the control unit is?
Been thinking about buying this, but concerned the control box may be too big to go in the space I have to spare.

Actually the DSR are a European Directive Jersey falls under.
Actually, the DSR are the UK enactment of the Directive, and Jersey does not fall under the UK. Jersey is not in the EU (although Britain is responsible for its negotiations with the EU) and so is not bound by its directives. The Jersey CAB website makes clear that Jersey has no legislation for the protection of consumers, and the only protection is that which is established in common law (ie goods must be fit for purpose and of merchantable quality etc.)

I believe Jersey in principle has accepted the terms of the Directive.

I nearly went for this but found all the wires go back to the sub, and that the speaker connectors are plugs, and not wirses (a big problem for me as my front room is under floor wired and could not be done with rewiering a new sound system in with plug in speaker connectors.
now if only i was able to have a study, just need the loft conversion first.

I was looking at this earlier today as well and this is the exact reason I didn't go for it. The cables on my current Pioneer set up are far too short and I'm betting that the cables on these will be a similar length and won't stretch around my living room.

I have just installed this system for my Xbox and it is a great piece of kit.
I would say the rear speaker cables are about 12-13M long, maybe longer. You could also extend the cable if necessary as the cable at the speaker end is bare wire.
The subwoofer is also the receiver and has 2 optical, 1 coaxial and 1 pair of analogue inputs, so it's quite flexible on inputs for an all-in-one system.

yes you can as it has 2 optical ins
1 for 360
1 for dvd
also has 1 coax for other dvd player
also on the back of most sky boxs they have left/right audio out phono
so you can link this to the pioneers as well!
also check both your dvd plays have digital out, will be optical or digital coax!
Ordered about a week back, been sent today!
Did anyone else think the tracking number on Play's website doesn't look like a regular Royal Mail/Parcelforce tracking number?

I am quite interested in this product but have a few reservation.
Could some of you that have it help me out with a few things.
Never had a sub or amp before so need some positive help please.
1. Due to the xbox360 being quite noisy, how is it when watching films that arn't noisy.
2. Do you have to keep adjusting the volume independantly, or is it pretty much good at one level once you have it set up. I assume it works independantly of the TV volume.
3. I currently have cable TV box, seperate dvd player combined vhs/dvd recorder and the 360. Is it possible to connect any of these to the pioneer system. I would be tempted to remove the seperate dvd player as it would become redundant.
4. I've been told it has no amp even though it says it in the description on the pioneer site. Is it worth £150 for a set of speakers and a sub. I already have surround on my telly with 5 speakers, would this be much of an improvement to justify the spend.
Thanks in advance.

Hi All.
I currently have a 3 year old + Sony 5.1 DTS kit and I have been looking at replacing the system recently as the amp is like the size of two dvd players!! and the sub is huge!
Questions for those who have just purchased this kit from play.com
1. Are the speaker connections bare wire at both ends?
(this would help as the cables going round my room now could be re-used on the new kit!!)
2. do you get wall mount backets with the kit, for the rear and front speakers?
Thanks

no its not bare wire on both ends, only on the speakers!
yes u get wall mount brackets, but they can only face the way the wall is pointing!
get to maplin nd get some of these!

no amp with this, but the sub is still big!
also you have to have it close to your TV, as every thing goes in the back of it!

Hi Super_Cds
Thanks for the info. shame as this will be a complete re-wiring job. Saved me some trouble, thank you!

u could cut the connector off, then join your existing wire to the end of the plug!
but i wount, best just to rewire!

yeah their is the option to snip the cables at the end where they go into the sub, then connect them to the existing wires. but from a warranty point of view that would probably spell the end of it for me!! :-)

do what i did and just connect the cables to your existing ones already setup , plug in the pioneer speakers to your setup cables on the walls , connect the pioneer cables to the sub then just join them to your old cables  that way you get it all working without having to do a rewire job and it keeps the connectors untampered with in case of a warranty call :p the only problem you will have is the piles of cables on the floor to hide :gag:
Temporarily out of stock now - typical, after watching it for weeks now just went to order as well...
Would this be good as a stand alone home cinema? ie using a seperate dvd rec/player and sky+???????
Thanks James, been looking around for a home cinema but really dont want another dvd player. Thanks

The only minor annoyance you may find is that the top half of the remote is mainly specific buttons for the 360, but it's not a major problem.

Got mine. Haven't connected all together but noticed the power cable is rather on the short side.
I am looking to upgrade my speakers on my Home ~cinema would this be a good option?
I am looking high and low for a nice priced surround system that has a small footprint. Apart from the Kef's there is really nothing else worth getting. The Kef's are outside of my budget.
I am still using the same speakers that came with my All in one Pioneer 303 from many years ago but have upgraded to a decent mission sub.
However i would want to connect the speakers and sub to a Denon reciever would that HTGPS1 still give me better sound as i think my Denon is holding back at the moment with my old speakers.
I have had to rush this so sorry if it sounds naff. :)

Will this be much of a improvment from my 2 year old Yamaha amp / speakers ? has surround sound moved on much in that time?

My friend who ordered this on the 2nd of Jan (when it was showing stock) got told theres no stock and they don't even know if they're getting anymore in.
Set mine up and its a great piece of kit for the money, the colour sucks though, thinking about painting the base unit.

Touch wood then - I won't hold my breath though - might give them a call in the morning if I get the chance - the 2 free games offer runs out at the end of the month anyway.

Did you use your order confirmation from play with the voucher? Or dispatch confirmation?

.... Bit of an update for you ... The lady that I spoke to yesterday said... a BIG NO, not getting them back into stock so I asked her politly to take the product off of the website.... Spoke to 2 guys this morning and they have said to me that they can't see if stock is coming back in or not!!! conflicting info!!!
So on that I have placed an order and hopefully will see something within the 28 days of order.
Hope this helps!!
I have one of these (received last week) which I am sending back as I won't make much use of it so if anyone wants to collect at cost price. They are more thann welcome to.

Doesn't look good for me either. I ordered a Sony str-da1200 amp in the middle of December, with stock due in on the 28th. That dates gone and now there's no expected stock. They should just take it off the site and email those with orders.
Where are you based?
Birmingham.
Let me know if you want it.

Have you opened it? I might be interested also. Not bothered about the games as I already have them so you could claim for them yourself if you wish.

Have you still got this? My girlfriend is at uni in Brum so wouldn't be a problem. Please let us know!!
Many thanks
Jay
Hi guys, I have opened it and tested it and it's all working fine. I am sending it back as it's too loud and complaining family members.
I am in birmingham.
Let me know if any of you are willing to collect at cost price?

Box is big. Just set mine up. Good enough for £150, but don't expect hi fidelity for music. Bass heavy for me, but a rolled up pair of socks in the front port soon tamed that.

Just set mine up - very, very impressed - Upgraded from standard Surround i've had for 8 years! Just watched SW EP3 - Amazing.
Just need by HD DVD Drive now - getting desperate!
Just set mine up too and I agree it's fantastic. A top bargain. Sound quality is much 'richer' than the LG all-in-one system that it's replacing. Being so late though, I haven't had a chance to crank it up but I'll give it a go tomorrow night. I reckon it should sound pretty sweet.
I posted the dispatch e-mail from Play with the form for the 2 free games on Thursday and I received my games by Special Delivery on Saturday morning! Outstanding!
I've set mine up now but one question - how do you get it to play dts tracks?
I select DTS in the menu options on the disc but it wont appear as playing as a dts source on the pio display panel, no matter how many times i scroll through the surround options.
SUPER_CDS

was it a dvd or audio cd? it auto switched on mine, think there is a menu to select if it plays dts or not, and you have to turn it on! turn it off and press set up, then right them select dts for audio!
