Ive had a Samsung 709(hacked) and a Kenwood KRFV5030 for sometime now and all of a sudden its decided to stop playing sound through the coax port :( Right i dont know what it is so can someone please give me some things to check(options in the DVD menu system?)
All i have is my sammy linked to the amp via a coax cable so there cant be much wrong with the connection. Ive boiled it down to : -
the sammys not outputing through the coax port.
the coax cable is busted
the amp has decided it dosent accept/decode the DD5.1 signal/coax input dosent work.
Please help. Much suffering.:(

Dear S,
I'll see if I can be of some help.
You've already narrowed it down to the 3 main possible problems :-
1) Your DVD player is not outputting a DD5.1 digital datastream
2) Your Co-ax connection is faulty in some way
3) Your amp is not accepting/decoding a digital input from the Co-ax connection
To check 1 you need to make sure your player hasn't accidently been changed to prevent the output of the digital datastream. I'm not familiar with you player but most have a menu option to enable "bitstream" output, which is the setting you need to "turn-on" the 5.1 digital data output. Poke around you menus just to confirm this option, or its equivalent, is set correctly.
For 2 I suggest you try a different co-ax lead. Any audio lead will do for a quick test as most will happily carry the digital data even if they're not "real" digital co-ax leads. If you have a multi-meter you could also test the existing co-ax cable to make sure it's not broken or shorted. Assuming all is well with the co-ax you have your amp left to check.
3) Now again I'm not familiar with your amp but many have input options which allow the amp to either select a digital input or an analogue input for a specific source. Often there is an "auto" mode which will select the digital input if a datastream is present, and the analogue if not. It is possible that your amp has somehow been switched to a different input mode preventing it from using the digital input from the selected source. Try your amp input mode options, and even take the bold step of reading the manual again (I know this is normally my last resort when things don't seem to work OK).
Other things to check are a different digital input (most amps have more than one for CD, etc) and also check a few different DVDs to be sure you are using a DD5.1 track as the odd DVD can default to a 2 channel pro-logic track which can be a pain when trying to fix a problem like this.
Hope this helps in some way.
Best wishes
