View Full Version : Sky+ or HDD/DVD recorder
Having decided to sign up for Sky, I'm in two minds whether to go for the Sky+, or standard sky and buy a separate DVD recorder.
We don't record much on the tv and was wondering whether it was worth the £10 extra a month ?
Also, what would be the chances of phoning up and haggling a deal over the phone. Free install, or whatever.
Any input greatly appreciated.
Personnaly in your situation I'd go for Sky+. Even though you don't record much on TV, Sky+ will give you more options to record stuff on different chanels at the same time giving you loads more freedom. If circumstances change you can always buy a separate DVD recorder at a later date, which is exactly what I've just done.

* Sky+ is more integrated into Sky such as Series Link but of course it's useless without Sky.
* A Hard Disk/DVD Recorder Combo is MUCH better for archiving off as you can high speed dub in only a few minutes. To archive off from Sky+ to a DVD Recorder it's done in real-time (i.e - Play & Record).
* A Hard Disk/DVD Recorder Combo also has editing functionality such as add/delete/move chapters etc... None of which is possible Sky+ Basically it has much better editing functions (Hard Disk/DVD Recorder Combo)
* A Hard Disk/DVD Recorder Combo is all in one unit.
Overall I'd probably opt for Sky+ and a £90 DVD Recorder (Panasonic I think to a reasonable one) but it all depends how much you're going to archive really.
The Sky and Sky+ integration works flawlessly.
