View Full Version : BMW Films - 'The Hire' [annoyed]

My favourite film of the 5 that are part of the BMW Films 'The Hire' collection is 'The Follow' and I was very happy when reading on these forums that I could ask BMW for a copy of the hire on DVD, I did and about a week ago I received it in the post, but to my great dissapointment 'The Follow' had been removed from the disc!! :mad:

Does anyone know why??

I too was a bit gutted that was missing too. It says on the disc that it is excluded due to contractual reasons. It doesn't really go into any further detail. No doubt it is some silly studio politic that has stopped it appearing on the second batch.

I don't remember for sure right now, but I read something about diferent versions of this DVD, one of them containing all short films and quite a few extras for a promo DVD, but others seemed like a "sample DVD" or something (I think there were as many as three different versons).

I'm sorry I can't be more exact in my reply.

Well my case says it has 'The Follow' on it, i'll have a look to see if it's there when I get home from work.

my first thoughts when I read about this new batch of BMW discs was that maybe Criterion are including the short on their ITMFL DVD and have politely asked BMW to remove it from their freebie?

The case says it's on it, but unfortunetly when you actually try to watch the film on the DVD, it tells you to view it on the web.

Exuse my ignorance but what does ITMFL stand for?? It annoys me sometimes when people think everyone will know what they're taking about when they abbriavaite a movie title, it's probably really obvious but I aint got a clue

Go to www.bmwfilms.com then go to the help section, fill in your details and in the big text box at the bottom ask for the DVD, I made up that I was doing a film degree at uni and wanted it for a project ;) and a few days later they will ask you for your address, and then after a few weeks it will land on your door-mat.

ITMFL = "In The Mood For Love" - classic Wong Kar Wai film ;)

It was removed, I've got it on my disc. I even put details on my custom made cover, but I might create another for you chaps that don't have it on your disc.

It'll be open when I've done more than two covers and I've actually finished making the pages for it.

I'm aiming to open it this weekend (no promises though) with covers for The Hire, The Hire (No Follow), Goonies & Basic Instinct.

I got the hire this morning quite a nice surprise actualy:D

It says it has the follow on the case, i checked it out and you can indeed whatch it as well the one where mr own talks about how to tale someone then give the money back at the end whoops sorry is that a spoiler??

As i say i only got this today so perhaps they have put it back in:)

I live in London and maybe I was lucky because I got the DVD yesterday and it does have "The Follow" it is class. It also has loads of features etc which is nice. ON the back it did say American Version Only on a big sticker but it worked in my Song R2 DVD player.

I received my copy of the disc today and 'The Follow' was included! I don't know how that happened but I have to say I was very pleased :D

Those sub stories are just bizarre. Somehow they tie into each other and the BMW shorts but i'll be damned if i can figure it out.:confused:

Same here, disk arrived Saturday including the Follow

Maybe the people feeling left out cos their disk didnt include the Follow should try getting another copy (using a friends address perhaps) and see if it's included on that one.

Same here - and <I>The Follow</I> was the first thing I watched!

Interestingly enough, my copy was Region 1 - is this common to all of them?

I belive the sans-Follow discs are region free, but ones with are certainly region 1.

Well that's annoying isn't it, my favourite film is 'The Follow' and I was was unlucky enough to get the 2nd batch of DVD's which had the film omitted.

I have asked for the DVD from BMW again, so hopefully I will get another copy, with 'The Follow' on it.

Here's hoping....

Well, that's good news that BMW seem to be including The Follow on the disk again.

For anyone who hasn't picked up this great FREE DVD yet, have a look at my review (http://www.dvdtimes.co.uk/index.cgi?page=Review&id=422&story=2479) on DVDTimes. There is advice there on how to pick up a free copy.

Absolutely. This is a fantastic DVD and I'd gladly have paid for such a great series of shorts. A quality product - the most original marketing tool I've ever seen for cars....loved Star most of all.

hhrrmmm it's a bit weird this?

It would seem that the 1st and 3rd batches of these discs have the follow on it, and the 2nd and 4th batch (that you got) does not have 'The Follow' on it.

I originally got a 2nd batch disc, so i requested it again, and when in arrived it was on it.

So maybe ask for it again and see what happens.

Any thoughts on how long I should wait before asking for another one, to try to get the version with "The Follow" on it?

I asked for mine on 21/02 and got it yesterday (02/04). It was posted 28/03 and doesn't include 'the follow'. I think I might reorder it and see what happens.

You’re right. After he checked the disc itself he found that The Follow wasn’t on there.

I got my hopes up when I saw it on the back cover, and then was annoyed when I discovered that it wasn't on there. C'est la vie. :(
