Criterion Edition of The Game in April

The moment is finally here, when all of you Fincher fans that have been bombarding me with e-mails asking when a SE edition of The Game will be released on DVD (you know who you are) can rest easy. I have just received information from a source at Criterion that a new Criterion Collection DVD of Fincher's 3rd film will be released on April 25, 2002. This date seems a little early, but we can still hope.

The release will of course be a 2 disc set boasting interviews, trailers, never before seen footage, a psychology test, an isolated score with commentary by Howard Shore, director's commentary, plus much more. We can also expect to hear a DTS soundtrack in addition to the obligatory Dolby Digital track. And as always, the transfer will be in anamorphic widescreen.

If this DVD is half as good as the Criterion Collection laserdisc, it should leave all of you rabid fans quite satisfied.

sounds pretty good. I must admit that I didn't really like it when it came out, but I've since become a bit of a Fincher fan and I'll probably give it another go, esp. with a whizzy jolly Criterion edition!

1. Alternate Ending

Instead of Nicholas going outside to catch Claire at her cab (off to catch a plane to Australia to participate in another "game"), he simply comes outside - a doorman asks if he would like him to call a cab, to which Nicholas refuses - and walks off down the street.

This is what was on the original criterion laserdisc .. so hopefully the DVD should be excellent

With any luck the DVD will have all of that and some more as well, and be anamorphic :) Can't wait, that film is great!

So i guess that just leaves Alien3 for the next Fincher rerelease on DVD. I wouldn't mind at least hearing a commentary by Fincher for that film.

Is there any indication of how much this Criterion Game is going to retail for??

It'll most likely be about £25 from people like play and *********, maybe 26 or 27 for the first month of release... Just a guess, but that's what it's usually like..

Ouch!!:( Mind you i knew it wouldn't be cheap. I suppose that's fairly reasonable for Criterion. Back in the day when i was just getting into DVD i very nearly bought Armegeddon Criterion for 49.99.

Glad i waited for the R2 now. Cheers Cheese McPhee:D

I thought there was another alternate ending where just as Micheal Douglas is leaving the party...............

someone hands him a piece of paper saying "Welcome to Level 2"

This would have been so much more in keeping with Fincher's style than the one used which smacks of studio interference.

I am so pleased that this set is coming to DVD. It was one of the only special edition titles remaining on laserdisc that made me still think about getting a cheap LD player.

Really looking forward to April now!

Dark Horizons now reports that this had been denied by Criterion, at least the April release date anyways.:(

Someone said something similar on the DVDReview forum.
