View Full Version : NTL TV Drive - Free if you already have 2 boxes
Not sure if this has already been mentioned but...
I got a mailer from NTL today about the new TV Drive. For people already on the family package there was an offer of a TV Drive for £10 a month extra and free installation. Plus if you moved your existing box to another room you could keep that as an additional box for an extra £5 a month (normally an additional box is £15 a month). So to recap: Going from having a normal ntl box to having a TV Drive box and keeping the normal box = £15 extra a month.
But when I phoned sales (08000520677) and I pointed out that I already had an additional ntl box upstairs, which I was paying an extra £15 for, they told me if that was the case they would simply replace the living room box for the TV Drive and would keep me on exactly the same monthly charge (as long as I also kept the old additional box upstairs).
Sounds like a good deal to me.

Sounds about right. When I got TV Drive on Telewest earlier this year at launch I re-negotiated the deal so effectively I got the top package TV, an extra box, the TV Drive, TV Drive subscription on top of what I already had for £5 extra per month. Just have to go through to the cancellations and say you are leaving to get Sky+ or SkyHD and they bend over backwards.
Only problem was I agreed to this as the discounts applied for 12 months then last month they took one of the £10 discounts off claiming it was only for 6 months. A few angry phone calls later because they failed to call me back when they said they would and the discount was re-applied but it was still a lot of faffing about. Totally different subject but Telewest have gone downhill a lot since the merger so they are as bad as NTL are for customer services. At least now I have a personal contact at Telewest who I can ring if I have any problems instead of going through the call centres who are there just to faff you about and lie to you (in my experience). I may in the new year get rid of the lot though, especially if they don't give a date for getting more HD Channels.
Is this available in all areas now?

Not yet, have a look on the website http://www.ntl.com/mediacentre/press/display.asp?id=876
Getting one installed on Saturday. Looks like a fantastic product on paper, will report back later. I see Sky+ got a roasting on Watchdog on Monday.
can't see myself going for this
already got PVR, so paying £ 15 pm for being able to record two programmes at once doesn't really appeal to me. Does this £ 15 pm include the ability to watch HD?
Neighbour had one installed a few days, its already been removed and disconnected all ready due to it crashing and locking up all the time.
Needless to say its probably ot the case with all connections, at least i hope not
It is only being installed in the Glasgow and Teeside areas as it is a trial with full role out next month.
Was hoping I could get this in time for Xmas. Still unsure whether or not to stick with them or not.
They better put it in both my rooms for free or I will be off, spend way to much money with them :)

Yes the box is HD and I believe there are some channels available (like the BBC preview).
No SKy HD channels yet though

Sounds similar to my deal on TV Drive (Telewest) lindis. I get:-
1 x TV Drive & TV Drive Sub
1 x Normal Box
Supreme Channel Package
Broadband (2Mb Unlimited)
Phone
Talk International (£3/month)
for £47/month
They wanted about £20 more than that standard, but I got this by going through to disconnections and saying I was going to Sky.
