View Full Version : Digiguide Lite - Free
A new free lite version (normal tv + freeview) of digiguide is out.
Looks OK for those who don't have sky/cable or those overwhelmed by the full version.

Cheers I might give this ago later. I take it all channels are available in this version ?
Don't think so, just the channels you would get on freeview.

Thanks OP, have used the full subscription version of Digiguide in the past and it was superb.
I don't need anything but Freeview listings at the moment so this looks ideal!

Thanks for the head's up. I have a habit of missing certain programmes so this should be ideal.

How do you get all the freeview channel listings? Mine seems to only show 15 channels?

I hardly watch those channels now I have the full Sky package, cheers anyway.
FreeGuide is a completely free alternative - http://freeguide-tv.sourceforge.net/.
It's obviously a work in progress and not quite as smooth as Digiguide - but it effectively pulls the listings from the RadioTimes site and saves you paying for all the listings.

Have been using Digiguide now for about 2 years and even signed up for 2 years at once for a discount, top product so if the freeview version is based on the same software base then for free this is a superb bargain
I have the full version of DigiGuide, its definately worth the money I think and sign up 2 years at a time now for the discount :)
how do you get the discount for buying 2 years at once?
All i see is:
Select one of the subscription options below:
Extend your subscription by 1 Year £8.99
Extend your subscription by 2 Years £17.98
Extend your subscription by 3 Years £26.97
Extend your subscription by 4 Years £35.96
Extend your subscription by 5 Years £44.95
Incidentally, the lack of any discount for long term subscribers is what stopped me using DigiGuide - you'd think they'd reward customer loyalty.
They had an offer on last year I think it was. I had already subscribed for one year and my renewal had an offer attached. Even at 9 quid a year its a bargian.

I had Digiguide back when it was free. I didn't bother paying becasue I gave up my Sky sub when it went up from £11 per month (I'm still waiting for it to come back down :D)
Does this lite version let you set favourites and stuff?
Looking at the site, it just looks like one of those annoying pop up programs. Has anyone given it a go?

That sir, is an excellent piece of software and just what I'm looking for. After my Digiguide for Windows subscription expired in October, I was after something a bit less 'cluttered' and over-complicated. Digiguide Lite goes too far in the other direction and doesn't give proper TV listings as such, but Freeguide - its a keeper! Cheers.

Excellent.
I used it years ago for a year but gave up on it as I couldn't afford. I am also only interested in Freeview.

Its not really a discount as such, just a chance to pay the subscription up front at this years price. The price seems to go up about £1 every year, so if you subscribe for longer you essentially save the £1.

I got it installed but it doesn't seem to be possible to list the programmes.
That freeguide looks great - if they could just smarten up the interface there's a great little program.

It looks much better than it did a couple of years ago when I last used it. Thanks for the reminder

Doh! I only have freeview and renewed my sub a few months ago! Typical!
The Digiguide Lite is just a pop-up program really. Shows up each time a TV program starts. Used it for a couple of months (it already says it is v1.0). Hasn't interfered with anything I'm doing, even games. Double-click shows whats on now and you can set it to show the days listing for 3 types of programs eg drama, sport, films.
As I've only got normal telly it's handy for me. Stopped me forgetting to watch something a few times.

Does freeguide allow you to set pop-up reminders?

Cheers to OP
I've installed Digiguide Lite and it does the simple task I want to do most of the time. That is, simply see if there's anything worth watching now or should I stay working on the pc

Long time digiguide supporter - great tool
Thanks OP. I used to have this years ago when the full guide was free so I thought I'd give it another go, this lite version is pants though!
I subscribe to Digiguide, and I find it very useful. It's just a pity that they can't publish VideoPlus codes. When I received the email about the free version I went straight to the Digiguide site to find a matrix comparing the free and the paid-for versions. Not only did I not find a matrix, I found no reference to the free version on their site. What's going on here?

Login to your account and its there under downloads
Went for Freeguide. Looks like it'll do the job
[Edit]
Well look at that: ITV4 - 6pm The Champions. Would never have spotted that one!
freeguide does just what I want - thanks to whoever mentioned it.
I've found out how to include radio in the listing as well (used to be able to include that on the RadioTimes web page - but they stopped it a while ago)
Found the details at

The radio stations have disappeared since we changed the default
listings provider over to the Radio Times instead of bleb.org. We did
this because bleb started limiting all downloads to 10 channels or less.
If you'd like to go back to add bleb as well as Radio Times, go to the
Tools menu, choose Options, open the Advanced node, then Grabbers, and
click XMLTV. Now click "Add a new XMLTV grabber" in the top right, and
from the blank drop-down choose "uk_bleb". Now click "Configure" above
and choose your radio stations (the TV stations will still be downloaded
via Radio Times, so you don't need to choose them). Click OK to save
your changes.
Now, when you click Download Listings you should get the radio channels
you selected as well as the TV channels you already had.
