Guys !
I'm looking to buy a genuine HDTV (Full HD - 1920 x 1080).
My screen size requirement is 46'' or 50''
I'd prefer either a Pioneer or Sony 46 X2000
I'm so triple minded about wether to go for a Plasma or LCD.
It appears people are divided equally into two groups about this.
http://www.plasmatvbuyingguide.com/plasmatvreviews/plasma-vs-lcd.html
My Tv is heavily used (sometimes 12 hrs a time). We are serious telly addicts and I will be using the new Tv with my Xbox 360.
Which new Pioneer gives a true HD output?
Is this any good :

How does it compare to the new Sony Bravia KDL-46X2000?
Please can you advise with your experiences with respect to televisions durability eg screen burn and its' capability to deliver a "solid" stable display
eg if you have any of the above tv's do you get ghosting when watching football?
Cheers
Pioneers are far better mate. sony re-badge a lot of other manufacturers stuff. for example the current Bravia range is all LG stuff.
its very common in the electrical arena. plus the pioneer stuff is made in the uk. which is a choice you dont get very often these days. So as well as getting the best TV currently available, you will help your country.
be aware if you are going to be using the 360 with it, forget about the sony
it only does 1080p via HDMI, not component or VGA.
for a purchase of this level you should spend a couple of hours browsing around on a specialist forum, like the avforums.
the sharp 1080ps are well worth considering.

the Pioneer 1920 x1080 model is nearly 6 grand... and is undoubtedly an awesome Panel
but the Sony 46X model has truly staggering picture quailty with good source material and can be had for £2500 quite a hefty saving
with SD material a Plasma shows it off to better effect but with hi def stuff and good source stuff, the difference is nothing in my opinion
I currently have a 4 series Panasonic which is a great panel in its own right...
I have been wanting a bigger model for a while now - and have visited just about every showroom in the north of England in my quest for an upgrade, and Have 'plumped' for the 46x Sony which is jaw dropping with hi def stuff,
and no way is the Pioneer £3000 better
Panasonic are releasing there 'fukk' HD Plamsa in the next few weeks and no doubt it will be as good as it gets. but yet again no change out of £5000 with the various terminal boards required as extras
I have been in every Empire direct store in these parts (lots of times) and to a man the assistants say the Sony x model is the finest model ever sold in there store..
and after see-ing the sony I fully agree with them
as for 1080P with HDMI only - a switch box or Amp that up converts will remedy that issue
although anything under 50" is not going to look any different so kinda makes that argument obsolete
cheers Chris

You get what you pay for. There's a reason why the Pioneer costs twice as much as the Sony. Only you know how much you can afford, the quality you want and the price you're prepared to pay for it.

Yeah i bought the Sony, purely based on quality \ value.
I couldn't beleive how good the picture quality was.
I bought the 46X2000, if I had a bigger(longer) room I'd get the 52X
I got it for 2.8k \ 5yrs guarantee \ free sky HD incl £150 cash back from Sony. How cool is that?
Going for the Pioneer would give me diminishing returns.... I'd rather put the money towards a hd \ blu ray player.

Although I have only had my 42PX60 for a couple of months I will be getting a 1080p set and this one is at the top of the pile.
Just a shame it doesn't accept 1080p over all inputs as it will make the 360 come into it's own. OK, I can get a switch but they seem to be pretty pricy for ones that do component, vga and hdmi.
The new Samsung F looks pretty good, but there seem to be a few issues with it, which is a shame as it appears to have everything else.
I'll have a look see in the New Year to see what is on offer then.
May bung the Panny in the kitchen when I do. :D

Isn't this common?
Is 1080p now common?

 is that true? Which LG model about 40"/42" are good then? I was under the impression the Sony's use Samsung panels but their own video processing systems which make them effectively better than models from Samsung. First I've read that they use LG re-badges.

Nope, its a load of crap.
Sony do use someone else's panels, Samsung I think, but the LCD software is all Sonys. Quite a few different manufactures share panel manufacturer to reduce costs, the LCD software can make all the difference in picture quality.

What do you think of the PX60 now? I nearly brought it about 3 months ago too but decide to wait until after Xmas. Bit shockingly the price of PX60 has dropped to under £900 (see bargain forums). But more so I’ve gone a bit off the plasmas and I’m thinking of either Sony W or X Bravia LCD or the Samsung F71. The Sony X might be out of my price range so thinking of either W2000 Bravia or the Samsung in the new year, hoping it’ll be about £1300 around that time.
Look at the new Samsung 46 inch lcd code LEM51 or similar. It has a fanatastic picture. Mind you it's not 1080. The new Sharp Aquos has a lovely 1080 picture. Comet have it on display.

I was all set for the Samsung F7 but it seems to have problems with overscan which can not be turned of on the HDMI inputs. I have always wanted to go the Plasma route but they just seem way to expensive now compared with how far along LCD screens have come a long. I have a 26" Samsung LCD in the bedroom and DVD playback looks astounding on that. I did consider the Sony X for a while but it can not do 1080p over VGA so I assume that the next panel that Samsung do will correct the problem that there current model has.
As for LCD v Plasma there seems to be little difference between the two now as far as HD material is concerned and as LCD seems to be far cheaper to buy, cheaper to run and no screen burn all seem to be pros in LCD's favour.
I like the Sharp Aquos but it only does 1080i not 1080p.

The new sharps do 1080P.
Only the 8th Generation 46 inch and above I believe.

You believe
All the LCxxXD1E range of Sharp Aquos do 1080p; 37", 42", 46" & 52"
Note that by all accounts (see avforums dot com) the sony W and X series will infact display xbox 360 @ 1080p through vga in spite of the fact that this is supposed not to be supported - its something to do with the 360 using sync-on-green - most gfx cards dont use this, and so you likely won't get 1920*1080 from a PC - the 360 however, is fine.

But do note that if a firmware update is done in future that removes sync on green this will stop it working at that res. No reason that they would do this but it is possible, I am sure in that thread there was a example given as to why they might do this but I can not remeber what it was.
very true - 90% of the threads at that place are all subjective rumour and intrigue - either way, for now at least, 1080p works.
Thank you KuKu...got my information from AVreview...

Apparently, the newer revisions of these that are due out will be capable of 1080p from all inputs.
I'm probably going to go for the 52" version instead of the 46" now, although a new 70" Sony model caught my eye earlier. My wife baulked at the idea of that in our living room though so probably will be a non-starter.
