View Full Version : Titanic SE - out in 2003
Given how I know many of you hold this movie in such high esteem ( ), thought some might be interested to know Paramount are working on a Special Edition of Titanic, due for release sometime in 2003. James Cameron has even been back to the wreck of the Titanic whilst making an IMAX documentary, and shot additional footage for use in the SE. Paramount have supposedly promised an anamorphic print this time. This information has been posted on The Digital Bits website, which I seem to recall is also deemed to be 100% reliable in all it's information. ;)
Well I'll be buying it. They might even set a reasonable price for the disc this time. :D

Hehe - If they do a decent job I'll get one too. Having listened to a DTS demo track today with this on it sounds superb (thanks embee) and would be great to have.
It's a bit late, must be 6 years after it was released - surely they've missed the boat on this on this one? :D
I'll get me coat...

If it's a special edition does this mean it doesn't sink?

I think they are looking for more of a challenge than that :)

A plank of wood would be cheaper and just as effective as the original performance, would it not? Though perhaps a brick might be better for his final scene, as wood floats too well.

A film needs characters - A Night to Remember didn't really have any.

Yep, it's the definitive "It's popular, so I hate it" movie.
I shall never forget pretentious 'film critic' Mark Cousens' response when he was asked if he was going to see Titanic -
"It's a little bit mainstream for me".
The film was successful, so he didn't want to see it!?!
Sure, the dialogue is cringe-a-minute, but to me it's classic BIG screen entertainment, old fashioned stylee.
And the band ACTUALLY DID play while the ship sank.

Or could it be that i have seen both films, and 'A Night to Remember' has a great deal more appeal to me.
Yes I asked on the forums a few months ago about a SE and everyone said there are no plans. So I got the R4 version for about £8.00. Well all I can say is a hope that this version will be the rumored 5 hour spectualar as I want to see what else James Cameron can put in it.
The SE should have some good features- the normal stamdard plus extra documemtries about the ship and the disaster.
Should be a good addition to the collection.
"You can't polish a turd" is all I'll say.
You can if you let it go hard over a long period of time, plus why would you want to polish a turd in the first place.:brickwall

risking wrath perhaps, but I'd have to agree this is definitly one of those films some people feel compelled to hate, even if they haven't seen it.
a great deal of those people, that I know personally I mean, seem to hate it as it's a hollywood blockbuster, but then don't seem to mind "action" films or whatever made by hollywood. weird.
also, decaprio i would say is quite good in it (not as good as he has been in some films, and he has been excellent in some films) as is everyone else really.
about 3 lines of utterly awful naff things are said, and they are indeed v bad - i laugh at those bits and enjoy the rest of it for being brilliant.
What exactly are they going to add?
Seemless branching with 3 different ways of killing DiCaprio?
Multiple camera angles for the car scene?
An extra 3 secs of the ship at the beginning?
Guest appearance by JarJar Binks? Thank God it's not a G.L film or I'm sure he'd be in it!
All rich people escape safely and peasants all die this time just to re-address the proper balance of things?

I have seen Titanic - I've seen it in the pictures and on video a couple of times. And I hated it every time! I was completely bored during the whole time (except when Kate Winslet got her knockers oot ;)), and the fact that Leonardo DiCaprio is in it just added fuel to the fire.
And God help us if there is a 5 hour director's cut - it's addin on another 2 hours of pure torture

...ummmmm, if you disliked it that much, why did you watch it so many times? I thought it was an okay film, completely undeserving of all the criticism it got. The effects were great, the story was at least engaging in an undemanding way. People who hate Leo because of this film should really watch him in This Boy's Life...the boy is good!

I seem to like all these movies that everone else hates - Godzilla, Titanic, Episode 1 etc.
I think some people forget that they are just films and you don't HAVE to watch them. I also think people get unrealistic expectations about them - i know people who complained that Godzilla was just a lizard stomping around a city - well, duhh ! what were you expecting ? Citizen Kane ?

For once Michael I agree with you. Only seen this movie once whilst at college and it was the best couple of hours I spent in the library. There was a DVD release last year, but seem to remember it disappeared without trace. Must check the R2 sites again.

I've seen this on video about three times (parents own it) and it doesn't really grab me. DiCaprio is in it, but I don't hate it because of that -- amazingly, I'm indifferent to him! From what I've seen of it, A Night to Remember is a far superior product.
