The all-Welsh FA Cup encounter between Newport County and Swansea City descended into chaos when the fourth official was hit by a coin.

The incident came after Alan Sheffield told the referee he had been verbally abused by County manager Peter Beadle.

As Beadle made his way to the stand, Sheffield collapsed after being struck, causing an eight-minute delay to the game - which Swansea won 3-1.

Sheffield was stretchered off and taken to hospital in an ambulance.

Just click on the Video at the bottom to see it.

Now i'm not saying a coin would not hurt you but he did go down very easy!

oh well if he made a meal of it then thats ok then.

you get the same scumbags spitting the dummy out when players have a pop at them one week yet thinking it's fine to throw missiles at players and officials the next. how the hell are these people not identified and prosecuted given the amount of cctv at grounds these days.

That's true. They've got to make it zero tollerance or stuff like this will keep happening. If they make it seem like it's easy to get away with, who knows what else will start happening?

It is a disgrace but I can't see how he was knocked out by a 10p unless it was fired from a cannon

If these incidents keep happening then it is only going to be a matter of time before a game gets abandoned. I'm no expert but I would have thought that a coin thrown from some distance that hits someone of the head could be quite painful especially as you have no idea it is coming. The actions of the manager in the case didn't help matters either.

Apparently the coin burst a blood vessel in the officials head.

Then whoever did it should not only be banned from football grounds for life he should be charged by the police.

And had to spend the night in hospital. I think it was probably a bit more than a scratch in that case. :(

How did the front man of '80s band 'Bad Manners' get involved?

the coin thrown came from the Newport stand. I think Beadle should have publicly slammed the small minority of fans for there thuggish behaviour.

That was a helluva throw considering how far the stand is from the pitch at Spytty Park. When I heard about the incident I thought it may have been in the tunnel but that clip shows what a good aim it was!

Saying that those Newport fans can be some buggers. I was talking to an ex-Newport manager yesterday and he said how after his third game in charge after they'd lost a fan ran upto him, spat in his face and threw his scarf at him. Yet when they drew up at Blackpool in the FA Cup the same guy was hugging and kissing him!!!!

If you have ever been to Newport County's ground, you'd realise there's probably no cameras there at all. Or very few. But it's definately not Old Trafford where there's probably 100s of cameras.

CCTV is only a requirement at league ground. The vast majority of non-league grounds have none. I know we don't have any at Morecambe.
