I have had some information from other sources already, and I am aware that the technology exists. In fact I found out that it is being used by some lap-tops and PCs, but no production of TVs as such.

There is an ongoing research and prototypes tested by some manufacturers, but has anyone heard of any further developments in this field? I think I'd be safe buying an expensive wall mounted flat screen TV for now, but it will be financially embarassing if TVs with 3D imagery started rolling offf the production line withinthe next year or so! :)

I think you would be safe enough for a few years yet despite the brave forecast by Phillips :gag: for sets in 2008 http://news.com.com/Philips+3D+TV+to+appear+in+2008/2100-1041_3-6022254.html although this short report by the BBC says could be just 3 years away http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/5360742.stm

Thanks for the info. In fact I was referred by a friend to the report by BBC, after I sent in this post. I think companies will never disclose any such plans for fear of demand falling for their current products already in the market.

In any case, I should be safe for a good few years - and I do not believe 3D would initially become available in the sizes I am currently interested in. Thanks again... :)
