I've ended up with a few discs that I just can't seem to get rid of (for one reason or another). So, rather than let them gather dust in a cupboard, I thought I'd give them to forum members who might appreciate them.
Sadly, I'm not prone to mindless benevolence, so instead I'll post a quote from a film and the first correct guess can pick any disc they like from the following list:-
Die Hard (R2 Anam 5.1)
Cliffhanger (R2 Anam 5.1)
Highlander- Final Dimension (R1 Non-Anam DS)
The Opposite of Sex (R2 Anam P-L)
Robocop (R1 Anam 5.1)
Being John Malkovich (R1 Anam 5.1)
Senseless (R1 Non-Anam 5.1)
Little Nicky (R2 Anam 5.1/DTS)
What film is this from...
"Wouldn't you like to be a pepper too??!!".
No more than two guesses each (and IMDB doesn't have it listed so don't bother looking!). If this thread falls off the first page then I'll post a clue and go from there....

Yes, a little bit harder this time though (and possibly slightly paraphrased)..
-"Now you can make a decision, do you want an apple or do you want an orange?"
-"Hmmm... I like bananas too"

Okay, 6 discs remain (and I knew those two would probably be the first to go). When it gets down to 3, those discs will be a bundle-prize.
Again, possible para-phrasing..

Whoaa!, another one gone (bad luck again tezmo!).
That leaves 4 DVD's (so there are just 2 quotes to go).
Starting with...
"You really want to be an animator? You've got to get inside the animals".
(SURELY this one is a bit more esoteric?).

Yes, I need all the winners to E-mail me their address.
I'll send them all out next week...
Okay, The following are still waiting for an owner:-
Highlander FD, Being John Malkovich and Cliffhanger.
The next correct guess will win ALL three of these.
You'll have to wait till 5.20ish today though (in about 15 minutes) because all of the ones I've used so far were from memory and that obviously makes them too easy.
I'm going to get a disc out and find a more unmemorable line to use (and make sure it's word perfect..).

The law of averages was REALLY on your side there too, but hey, life isn't always fair!.
Just to make it a teeny bit easier, I've included further dialogue from the scene....
"She's sleeping with another guy and that's the God's honest truth, She doesn't even know I exist..."
its a keanu reeves quote....?

Nope. I can't really respond to any further questions like this as it will rapidly degenerate into a Through-the-Keyhole affair.
a la-
"I think it's someone on TV yeah?"-/Round of applause/
"It's probably a prime-time show she does"-/quiet shuffling/
"A morning show?"-/Tumbleweeds roll past/
"Oh well then..... Vanessa Feltz!"
I'll post a different quote from the same film if nobody gets it soon.

Only registered members (where would it all end?!).
If the winner already owns one of the 3 discs, or doesn't want all of them (for whatever reason), then (and only then!) everyone can have another go. Although it would be a NEW quote from a different film of course...
Tony Keats

Fair enough, you need more to go on.
Quote 2 (same film):-
-"Alright, stay down low, really low, REALLY low"
-"Lower than this?, What d'you want me to get UNDER the car?!"
Well shucks!! Bet her 2 guesses were better than mine too........ah poo :)

I think we may have a problem here(!).
tezmo, that was your third guess was it not?..
I'm not sure if it's my mistake or yours but the other line "god's honest truth" is Multiplicity aswell and the "Under the car" line was just an extra clue to give you more of a chance (was that unclear?).
I was initially pleased to see your name next to the right answer but I'm not sure what to about this now....
(the law of averages is really breaking its ass on your behalf right now!!)..
Give me a minute to read through again.

We're very fortunate to have someone as generous as Mr.Keates (i imagine you as a sort of a richard o brien type dude) on the forums in any case, so of course splitting works - whatever the Quizmaster says goes :)
I'm sure he's a lovely chap, Mr.tezmo!
I'm a quizmaster myself - I design the questions at the horror website, http://www.splatterhouse.net (plug, plug)

I think it was pretty clear, but I'm going to give final say to stigdu as (by rights) he won the competition. If you can agree on one each, then I'll post a quote for the remaining disc, but if you (stigdu) want all three, then you can have them.
(and respectfully addressing me as Mr Keats/Quizmaster had nothing whatsoever to do with it!..)

It doesn't make any difference unfortunately as you've had two guesses already (again!). It's a good point for future reference though and editing should be banned (if anyone's crazy enough to do this in the future!).

That's it then!.
It just goes to show that offering freebies as an incentive is always the best way of jogging someone's memory!.
It's also interesting that the ones that were heavily para-phrased and un-checked were the ones that people got in a heartbeat and the only one that I quoted word-for-word took HOURS!. There's a lesson in there, but I'm not sure what it is (other than never doing this again!).
Make sure you E-mail me with your details if you won and remember that I've got 8 separate packages to sort out(!), so give me a couple of days...

Err, I'm fairly certain that it ISN'T! (but I won't have to elaborate for the non-skimmers..). It's safe to say that the competition is now closed.
I've got all the winners addresses now and to those asking about postage costs etc, leave all that to me.
Finally, so there's no confusion about what's going where (and to avoid any further submissions!). The complete list of guesses and chosen discs is below..
The relevant movies were identified correctly by the following:-
'Short Circuit' by Gorky, chose The Opposite of Sex.
'Election' by Mike Gray, chose Die Hard.
'Happy Gilmore' by Kat23, chose Senseless.
'The Untouchables' by Matt Capes, chose Robocop.
'Freddy Got Fingered' by Noodles, chose Little Nicky.
'Multiplicity' by tezmo/stigdu, after a bit of controversy and some discussion, stigdu chose Being John Malkovich.
(and graciously allowed tezmo to snap-up Cliffhanger!).
'Beverly Hills Cop' by kjn6371, lumbered with Highlander.
Space Duck

Lumbered with Highlander... the sequals were alright after the first two :p mind you the duck has never really liked that Lambert (& Butler) guy :D

Tony Keats
06-01-2002, 14:22
No!.
I've streamlined my collection to what I can fit on my shelves and I'm happy now thanks. If I could have sold them, believe me I would!. Some were worthwhile discs that I've replaced with better versions (like Die Hard etc), but I never watched any of the others and strongly disliked 3 of them.
I have some other discs which I don't have on display because they're a bit shameful (no, not porn..), but I do watch them occasionally and it's worth my while keeping them (guilty pleasures etc). The 8 that I gave away yesterday weren't serving any purpose and certainly weren't going anywhere. It would have been silly to let them rot when someone might enjoy them.
There's nothing to stop somebody else doing something similar (I wouldn't hold your breath though!).

I wouldn't be surprised if someone else does a similar thing again. In fact a few people did similar things in the last few months, but on the General Forum (me included!) so you never know!
And thanks Tony!
