Rap star Kanye West was named Best Hip Hop artist but still came off as a sore loser at the MTV Europe Music Awards.
Kanye apparently was so disappointed at not winning for Best Video that he crashed the stage Thursday in Copenhagen when the award was being presented to Justice and Simian for "We Are Your Friends.''
In a tirade riddled with expletives, Kanye said he should have won the prize for his video "Touch The Sky," because it "cost a million dollars, Pamela Anderson was in it. I was jumping across canyons.''
"If I don't win, the awards show loses credibility," Kanye said.
A) When did the MTV Awards have credibility
B) PAMELA ANDERSON!!!
C) CANYONS!!!
the after show follow ups were even better
"Kanye West unleashed an amazing outburst after failing to take home the gong for 'Best Video' for his 'Touch The Sky' promo at the EMAs.
Crashing the stage as winners Justice and Simian collected their silverwear for 'We Are Your Friends', the hip hop star spat, "**** dis! (My video) cost a million dollars, Pamela Anderson was in it, I was jumping across canyons and ****! If I don't win, the awards show loses credibility. Nothing against you (J&S), but hell man."
His verbal tirade left audience members gasping but it didn't end there.
After the show the offended star continued to vent his spleen in the press conference.
He told the world's media he was upset because he had "the best video."
"I haven't seen (the Justice and Simian video). Possibly it could have been quite good but no way better than 'Touch The Sky'.
"That is complete ********, I paid a million. Obviously it's not all about the money, but the response it got transcended everything, it really made great TV.
"It took a month to film; I stood on a mountain; I flew a heliocopter over Vegas. I did it to be the king of all videos and I wanted to walk home with that award."
He said of the Justice and Simian's win: "That was some spread the love ********, 'Oh everyone should have an award'. Please press people print 'Kanye says **** that!'
But proving he wasn't just a sore loser, the harangued hip hop star said he was happy to lose out to Justin Timberlake in the 'Best Male' category.
"Obviously Justin should have won, he's on fire and he's an inspiration to me," he said.
Let's hope he didn't hear JT's wisecrack about his, er, speech.
The slinky-hipped one quipped, "After the show, Kanye will be in the parking lot accepting awards he did not win. Seriously though, I've got sexy covered, it's good to see someone's doing crazy."
I think thats the first time I've ever thought fair play to timberlake.

I don't know. You've got to love a guy who believes that he is better due to "cost a million dollars, Pamela Anderson was in it. I was jumping across canyons.''
I think that should be allowed in the Academy Awards in future. Jay Chandrasekhar jumping on stage and arguing that Dukes of Hazzard should win best film because it cost $53million, has Jessica Simpson in tight shorts and has an orange car that flies through the air.
It's all valid!

MTV Doesn't Care About Black People
His crashing stage didn't exactly make them feel they needed to reconsider either by the sounds of it. :D

I like this story, because I get a nice warm feeling inside when (so-called) celebrities make complete tits of themselves. :)
Why didn't he crashed the stage at the VMAs in September if he felt so strongly about his video not winning?

No matter how many times I read that it says he was jumping across crayons. If he did that then the award should have been his in my opinion!
He is a hamster-faced whining nancy though!
I wonder how much it cost to shove those golf balls in his cheeks, the bloody clown.
Awww bless!
I love it when mere popstars let their egos go mental and takeover!

 Please tell me that was the sarcasm.
He sounds like Alan Partridge but without the irony.

Little bit harsh mate, he may have acted like a tool but those 'golf balls' (as you so kindly put it) aint his fault.
Its his personality thats the problem here.

Yup, it's a real shame.
MTV always did hate black artists in the old days, from what I remember reading.
Kanye sounds like he was on some MAJOR lines of coke and other stuff that night from the sounds of that tirade. AWESOME! :D :notworthy
Where's Jarvis when you need him.
Ain't that the truth.
Was it the MTV awards or the Grammys where when it got to the RnB-type awards all the white dudes departed? And similar to the rock/pop awards where the black artists headed to the bar?
MTV certainly used to be seemed to be biased against black artists but that was back in the 80s, where, to be brutally honest, the only black Americans artist to fit their demographic were Prince and Michael Jackson. Seeing as the yanks have turned their backs on proper pop music (my Confessions... album was a far bigger success in UK, Europe and the rest of the world for example, the gits!) I can't imagine MTV, in the brief times they actually show - gasp shock horror - music videos, being anything other than Green Day-type rubbish or RnB ('black' music). So surely they can't be biased against black music anymore?

MTV have never had a policy to limit black artists (unlike some radio stations). It was more a case of the type of artists who actually had videos ready for playing back in the 80's were largely Brit renaissance types.

Well that was directly contradicted by the programme on MTV I saw. They categorically stated that it had a policy of no black artists to be shown and that MTV wouldn't play Michael Jackson's videos when they came through, so to force their hand his record label claimed they'd withold the rights to all artist videos (black or white) until Jacko's stuff got a fair airing.

My big problem with the awards was the major lack of any non-american artists! :suspect:
I know America provides the main source of popular music these days, but this was supposed to be the ‘Europe’ music awards!!! – would’ve been good to have a few more uk/ Europe artists, rather than some decidedly poor US ones  .

Mr West speaks about the incident...
He told MTV: "It was just out of raw emotion. I had a couple of drinks but I was more drunk with adrenaline. I was drinking at the awards show because I feel so at home at awards shows.
"On one hand, I felt like I should have won. But if anybody watches the show, I was laughing. People don't understand my dry sense of humour. I went up there and said, 'Hell nah, I should have won'."
Despite his apology he still felt that he should have won Best Video.
He added: "'Touch the Sky' was definitely better than that. [Their video] was good. It didn't cost a lot of money - I know it's not about the money, but when you got drinks in you, that's the first thing you're gonna say."

A little update
TAMPA, Fla. - Evel Knievel has sued Kanye West, taking issue with a music video in which the rapper takes on the persona of "Evel Kanyevel" and tries to jump a rocket-powered motorcycle over a canyon.
Knievel, whose real name is Robert Craig Knievel, filed a lawsuit in federal court in Tampa on Monday claiming infringement on his trademark name and likeness. He also claims the "vulgar and offensive" images depicted in the video damage his reputation.
"That video that Kanye West put out is the most worthless piece of crap I've ever seen in my life, and he uses my image to catapult himself on the public," the 68-year-old daredevil said Tuesday.
A spokesman for West said the 28-year-old rapper no comment. The lawsuit seeks damages and to halt distribution of the video.
In the video for "Touch the Sky," released earlier this year, West dons the familiar Knievel star-studded jumpsuit and jumps a canyon in a vehicle "visually indistinguishable" from the one used by Knievel in his failed attempt to jump the Snake River Canyon in Idaho in 1974, the lawsuit said.
The video, which features Pamela Anderson as West's girlfriend, contains "vulgar and offensive sexual images, language and conduct involving `Evel Kanyevel' and women apparently trying to gain his sexual interest," according to the lawsuit.
"The guy just went too far using me to promote his filth to the world," said Knievel, who lives in Clearwater and has been in poor health in recent years. "I'm not in any way that kind of a person."
The lawsuit also names Roc-A-Fella Records, video director Chris Milk and AOL for distributing it.
West was so disappointed at not winning best video for "Touch the Sky" at the MTV Europe Music Awards last month that he crashed the stage when it was presented to Justice and Simian for "We Are Your Friends."
In a tirade riddled with expletives, West said he should have won the prize because it "cost a million dollars, Pamela Anderson was in it. I was jumping across canyons."
Knievel failed spectacularly in the 1974 jump. He was secured inside the cockpit and the Sky-Cycle was fired up. But his parachute opened just as he cleared the ramp. After soaring about 1,000 feet, he wound up landing about 20 feet from the river on the rocky south bank. He sustained only scrapes and bruises.
In the video, West's vehicle crashes to the bottom of the canyon in flames.
