View Full Version : Sky TV - but from overseas?

I moved abroad recently and have been missing UK TV. One possible option that a friend suggested, was getting Sky TV installed at my parents place, uninstalling the box and dish, taking it with me abroad, and then pointing it in the right direction...

Obviously, I doubt sky would be best pleased with that - and I have heard that the latest packages require you to plug the box into a phone line (that might be a slight problem ;-) but has anybody actually done this?

How difficult is it to locate the right satellite when you're not a "trained sky installation engineer"?

Cheers for any advice/thoughts.

Hi, there's a good FAQ on this very subject here (http://europetv.cjb.net) .

Also checkout the uk.tech.tv.sky newsgroup, there are always lots of threads on there.

Good luck

and yes it's still very possible even with the phone line condition.
Also if you buy your digibox on e-bay or another auction site for under a £100, you can get a FTV bbc card via any UK address from Sky for free where theres a valid licence, just don't tell sky that you are abroad, have it posted to that UK address and give Sky the serial number of the box etc etc-That will give you all BBC/ITV/CH4/CH5 and various others.
Best get the dish and instalation sorted locally, as Dish size depends on where you are.
