View Full Version : Jessops changes 'Internet Beating Price' policy.
There's a thread on DPReview that indicates that Jessops (http://www.thedvdforums.com/jump2.php?url=http://tracker.tradedoubler.com/click?p=17211&a=60823&g=106115) has dropped its ludicrous 'Internet Beating Price' policy.
Instead, and this is the good bit, they have reintroduced their internet price match policy  but in addition, they'll also refund 10% of the difference as well
If true, well done Jessops (http://www.thedvdforums.com/jump2.php?url=http://tracker.tradedoubler.com/click?p=17211&a=60823&g=106115).
OK I am confused lol! Can you give us thick people an example with figures involved? :D
OK I am confused lol! Can you give us thick people an example with figures involved? :D
If the rumours are correct and Jessops (http://www.thedvdforums.com/jump2.php?url=http://tracker.tradedoubler.com/click?p=17211&a=60823&g=106115) list an item at £200 and you find a ( I'm guessing non grey ) retailer selling for say £190, they'll charge you £190 minus 10% of £200-£190. So you pay £189.
Ah, so that's not much of a discount then, but still it's possibly a good match for an internet purchase price in the high street.

About time as their web arm, Cameras2U.com (http://www.thedvdforums.com/jump2.php?url=http://tracker.tradedoubler.com/click?p=20266&a=60823&g=634508), often charges a huge amount less than the "Jessops" side.
Oh yeah, they do take into account shipping costs. So, you don't get that bit knocked off. But as you'd be paying it anyway ...
You need to take along a print out from the site or printed advert, with the price to be matched and the shipping costs.
I had a Jessops (http://www.thedvdforums.com/jump2.php?url=http://tracker.tradedoubler.com/click?p=17211&a=60823&g=106115) pullout come with a paper last week and it suggested this was just on DSLR's.
Would be handy if this has changed :)

you find a ( I'm guessing non grey )
That's the 'grey' area (pun intended:D)
Anything on the net that's sufficiently cheap is likely to be a grey market import.
Not sure there are many UK sites selling stock supplied by the official UK suppliers that really beat Jessops prices.
Though in theory anything sourced in the EU should not be labelled as grey imports according to EU law.
Just to clarify, said so in an advert in the paper the other day - tis true OK
They will discount 110% of the difference on UK stock on UK based internet sites verifiable by telephone [again UK] including postage costs as indicated above.

Well, if you look at ***************** you can see that Jessops is cheapest for some things but often it's quite a bit more expensive than other UK suppliers. Take the Nikon 17-55 DX, £969 at Jessops and £840 at College Cameras (http://www.collegecameras.co.uk/Products.asp?ProductID=668). I bought my 17-55 from College Cameras and it was definitely UK stock.

Makes me wish I was in the market for a D2xs, it can be found online for £2700 compared to Jessops (http://www.thedvdforums.com/jump2.php?url=http://tracker.tradedoubler.com/click?p=17211&a=60823&g=106115) £3500..!!!

Well thats not bad then, Bristol Cameras sell the 5D for £1700, Jessops sell (Body only) for £1950, which means you can get the 5D for £1675 from Jessops, with the cashback, you end up paying £1475.

Thanks for the heads up on this. Based on this I am hopefully off to my local Jessops later to get a Panasonic Lumix FZ50 for under £340.
Jessops list it for £499.99 (http://www.thedvdforums.com/jump2.php?url=http://tracker.tradedoubler.com/click?p=17211&a=60823&g=106115&url=http://www.jessops.com/Products/ProductDetail.aspx?SkuId=36166) whereas Purely Gadgets have it in stock including VAT and delivery for £353.95 (http://www.purelygadgets.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=2406).
By my reckoning that makes it £146.04 difference + 10% (£14.60) = £160.64, therefore the price should be £499.99 - £160.64 = £339.35.
Or am I mistaken?

You are correct, I am off to my local one tomorrow to get a 30D, with the £100 rebate starting tomorrow, I should be able to bag one for about £600.
By my reckoning that makes it £146.04 difference + 10% (£14.60) = £160.64, therefore the price should be £499.99 - £160.64 = £339.35.

They'll add on postage and packaging if the price match source is mail order.

Yep, they're £50 cheaper than everywhere else, and with the 110% price match, means I'd get the extra £5 price difference off. Making the price £1675 - difference between Jessops instore price and Bristol Cameras are £250 - watch out they'll try and say that Bristol Cameras price includes the £200 cashback :oh-hum: So 10% of £250 being £25 off the Bristol price.
Whilst everyone else sells this for £1750, means you get it for £1730 without Bristol Cameras price match (might even be worse - throw in the postage costs...).

Cameras2U.com (http://www.thedvdforums.com/jump2.php?url=http://tracker.tradedoubler.com/click?p=20266&a=60823&g=634508&url=http://www.cameras2u.com/products/details.cfm?PRODUCT=CANEOS30D&tduid=157c2391ebbb471ee37a5b3cd4202a1a)
30D for £737, the best bit is that for orders over £100 is FREE P&P
Meaning it beats the current price of £750 from Bristol camera + £15 P&P.
The site doesn't show the Canon Rebate either so Jessops can't claim it's included. So £737 - £73 - £100 = £564
Which is only £100 more than a 400D online.
I think Cameras2u are a part of Jessops anyhow.

I don't see how you get to this price. I also can't see signs of the £100 cashback on the canon site now. Only off accessories. By my calcs.
Jessops price £819.99-
Cameras2U price £737.95
difference £82.04
110% of the difference £90.24
so Jessops price - £90.24= £729.75-£100 cashback
Total £629.75. Which bit am I missing?

Carfully paint out the '200' and replace it with '50' Then you can tell her it cost less than £300.
:)
Thanks to you guys here I cancelled my order online for a Ixus 850IS and went into Jessops with print outs of their price match policy and two online shops.
They had no problem price matching to the internet shops but the assistant had to go check with her boss when I queried over the 110%.. She came back at first saying it was just for local competitors until I pointed out it clearly said online or high street shops. She went off again and came back in agreement :)
So shelf price of £330, my price £242 - bargain!
