hey, anyone else excited about Tom's new strange brew collection of songs coming out on Nov 20th?
Details here (http://www.anti.com/catalog.php?id=69)
Its called Orphans: Brawlers, Bawlers & ********
Can't wait for this myself, have loved his stuff for years and was lucky enough to go and see him at Hammersmith a while ago. Man's a genius.
Cheapest i can find it so far is at Amazon.co.uk (http://www.thedvdforums.com/jump2.php?url=http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000INAUZO/thedvdforums-21) for £21.99
I thought i saw it cheaper at CD-Wow (http://www.thedvdforums.com/jump2.php?url=http://www.cd-wow.com/index.php?affid=15561)
but i can't find it on a search anymore (if it was there, or if the search ever works properly)
anyway, if anyone finds it cheaper, let us know
Wasn't aware of it - thank you for the post!! Its on my Xmas list...
WIll they ever re-master his early albums?
cheers

I cannot wait for this!
By all accounts this is actually a selection of songs that went missing over the past decade or so and not all new stuff. Or as Tom says, "the ones that survived the flood and were rescued from the branches of trees after the water’s retreat" and "the ones that fell down the back of the cooker".
And thanks to a mate at Epitaph I've heard it and can say it's amazing - much prefer it to his past couple of discs. The songs don't sound like a compilation (I think they've been significantly reworked) so the 50+ songs sound like a unified whole. The "Bawlers" disc in particular is lovely though I've always been a fan of crooning Waits more than looning Waits!

CD-Wow.com (http://www.thedvdforums.com/jump2.php?url=http://www.cd-wow.com/index.php?affid=15561) have now got it listed for £19.99 including the 50p forums discount here (http://www.thedvdforums.com/jump2.php?url=http://www.cd-wow.com/detail_results.php?product_code=1060690&affid=15561)
think there is a special edition of some sort if you look on amazon with an extra booklet.
a good chunk of the songs have been heard before, on things like Sea of Love, Shrek & Dead Man Walking soundtracks & various compilations (like What Keeps Mankind Alive) or have appeared on the Tales from the Underground CDs.
on the other hand, so good new or unreleased tracks, 20-30 I think are "new".
I doubt believe they have been re-recorded or remixed.. just matched for style, ballads or similar.
Anti have streaming versions of the discs right now... one a week till release date.

also a few full tracks to download on there.

well, mine arrived yesterday from CD-Wow (http://www.thedvdforums.com/jump2.php?url=http://www.cd-wow.com/index.php?affid=15561) and its damn great!
Listened to Brawlers, Bawlers and half of ******** so far and they are really really good. Stand out tracks so far are Bottom of the world, Children's Story, Two Sisters, Goodnight Irene and many more. Thank god for long car journeys with Tom to help me along
OMG, had no idea this was around. Thanks for the heads up and now officially added to the Xmas list

They've been playing bits on Radio 6 for weeks - sounds good, but also said a one off pressing so when it's gone it's gone - but how big that pressing is...
its a bit hit and miss - but there are some great tracks on here.
some I already had & love (Walk Away is one of my favourites ) but others are very good.
2:19 and Fish in the Jailhouse are a hoot for starters. Bottom of the World is nice too.
the Bukowski poem "Nirvana" I like.
Folks who got this...did it come in a special box? The reason I ask is that Amazon seem to be out of stock, as do Play, but they have a 'digipak' released on the 18th december...which I assume is the same 3 disks but in a card sleeve.
cheers
mikef
its the same 3 discs but not the same booklet.
24 page instead of 94 or something similar.
I actually asked this in October but it wasn't clear at the time that the limited edition was the first one and the one on sale after that would be the cheaper digipack (presumeably a standard 3 cd case).
OK cheers Martin....if the booklet is worth the extra cost will hunt it down...

I think so but thats just me.
most of hmv & virgin branches I've been in still have the limited edition version (at £30) but amazon don't have any stocks left...(was originally £23 there).
you are starting to get people selling them on ebay or through the amazon shops thing.
the digipack is out on either the 8th or 12th.
same discs but not as nice packaging... and a much smaller booklet.
guess it depends on your preference, the music is exactly the same, and you could pick the normal cd case version for nearly half price, around £16-17.
here's the anti news article on it. the "paperback" version as they call it. :)

Is any release of this still in print? It seems to be out of stock in most places.

do a google shopping search. Overstock claim to have them though not sure what they are like as an etailer and so do Amazon.com (http://www.thedvdforums.com/affiliatelink.php?localaffiliateid=25&url=http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000L43AN4/thedvdforums-20)

Thanks, I saw that a couple of those had it, but I was hoping that one of my preffered retailers would get it back in.

They might if you order it as otherwise I suspect lack of orders will mean no restock without a reissue
