View Full Version : Emma Bunton - Downtown / Life in mono (album)
The official song for this years Children in need is the old Petula Clarke song "Downtown" sung by ex (?) Spice Girl Emma Bunton.
It's not much different to the original but I like it anyway.
Miss Bunton is at her best when performing 60's type songs. Her last album "Free me" is a pop classic and deserved more recognition than it got.
You can listen to the rhythm of the gentle bossa nova here...

Her new album is hitting the shops at the beginning of December.
Hope it's as good as the last one...

I have to admit, this is an unexpectedly good cover
Reminds me of Nancy Sinatra for some reason
hmm, not quite sure, I always think its not as good as the original when it starts but by the end think its a good version (only hear it because radio 2 are playing it lots - honest)

it struck me that (maybe i've a one track mind) that is the sub-context of the song ... or maybe it's about dancing with oneself ...

Strictly Cum Dancing?
maybe it's that in the video, Miss Bunton keeps pointing down towards her crotch whenever she sings "Downtown" ... although again, that could just be me ...
are you lot on crack?
Emma Bunton = talentless yawny bint
Petula Clark = one of the best singers this country's produced
no competition

Petula Clark =
Song in either version = one for your granny ;)
Petula clark
Downtown with her colostomy bag!

Downtown with her colostomy bag!
Not to lower the tone here but is the old colostomy bag rumour as true as Cliff's (ie - not?) Even if it is true, I'd hope she'd be remembered for more than that

Even Ducky, the Spice fan has to say Petula is better.... But that's only because me mum is a HUGE petula fan and I've seen the song sung live... Emma doesn't have a strong enough voice to carry off Downtown, needs to be Belted out to the audience....
Anyway... CIN song should have been 'First Day Of my Life' by Melanie C

Please tell me that Life In Mono isn't the Mono song of the same name.
You can listen to a few tracks from her new album on her site in the "About me" section...

It's sounding good, slightly less 60's tinged than her last album. The "Life in mono" cover is brilliant and my favourite so far.
she's certainly not baby spice any more, must be a 34D at least :n0rty:

Must admit I really like the CIN single. Been tryng to buy it but every shop I've tried has only had the 1.99 version of the single, I want the maxi edition with the video on as well.

News (http://uk.news.yahoo.com/11122006/344/dancing-star-emma-s-new-album-flops.html)
Having seen this piece of news about Emma Bunton it made me think that maybe she needs new PR people, they say they have done loads of advertising. I hadn't heard that she was releasing an album.
Should have realised that was why she was doing strictly come dancing but hey
I am not an Emma fan but just feel that she has not been helped by her record company
Really ? I can't switch the telly on without seeing an ad for it. And she sings a track from it on some chocolate ad or summat at the mo.

Is it me or if you stick at the start page on her site (with the sound off) it's just plain freaky, like some sort of nodding dog thing.
Downtown sucked the big one, but you can forgive her a little as she's easily the tastiest ex spice girl.

I beleive the album was self funded so she needs to have a long hard talk to herself.
phollan1 I've merged your thread with this one.

Ha ha yes, that is well weird and unsettling.
It's a shame you can't click on it and have her react, or ask her questions, or something.
