I have the region 1 version of this film, when I watch it the aspect ratio flicks to a narrower picture for a few seconds before flicking back. It happens about 4 or 5 times during the film, has anyone else had this problem? My player is an Aiwa xd dv370 and my tv is a philips widescrean.
Welcome to the forums mate:)
Might be a silly question but does your TV have a 'Smart' mode whereby the TV automatically adjusts it's pic to suit what signal it gets. I'm wondering if the TV is automatically switching and getting confused. Although I wonder why it goes narrower? If it was auto swiching then it would i presume go wider as in 4:3, 14:9, Zoom etc. Personally I have this dvd and it doesn't do this on my Panasonic.
Sorry i can't be more help.

my tv used to flick between aspect ratios , eg, going from the menu, into the movie, the bars would re-adjust..
so i tinkered with my DVD plyer setting and made sure it was set to widescreen mode (or letterbox actaully), rather than pan and scan.
so this might help.
is it just your moulin rouge dvd where this occurs? or is it through all your discs?

No, it's just Moulin Rouge, which is why I'm so puzzled. I'll try and mess with the Tele settings, I've already tried the DVD! Is it anything to do with being a Region 1 disc on a remote hacked Region 2 player? Cheers

Has it anything to do with the 'Green fairy' feature on the disc? (When you can branch off from the film for extra featurettes)
Is your DVD player set to Pal 50 for NTSC discs by any chance. This happened with my region1 Rocky Horror (whenever there was a branch to an extra feature). Outputting to NTSC or PAL 60 soon cured the problem.

Cheers for your help people! The green fairy mode was not on, but I will check out the pal thing. Once again, cheers.
