View Full Version : Is 3:2 pulldown more apparent via S-Video than RGB or am I mental?

I was having a fiddle with my set up after Radiohead and I had one of our "this is what I'm buying next", "Oh yeah well then I'm gonna get one of these then" type chats.

I changed my DVD to the Svideo input and put my Sky on RGB to see what it was like, but then I stuck Forrest Gump in and suddenly in the opening scene where the bus drives across the screen I was more aware of it bouncing across the screen...

More worrying was that my wife said "why is the bus juddering" whereas normally she would say something like "is this a tape or a DVD?" ;)

SO I swapped it all back and I think it looks less juddery on that scene, but you know what it's like when you start to scrutinise too much...

Is it just I hadn't noticed that this scene suffers especially badly from 3:2 pulldown and now because I was looking carefully I saw it?

Has anyone else noticed this?

I wouldn't have expected any difference as far as 3:2 pulldown's concerned. Svideo is certainly less "clean" and there can be a slight jitter on, for example, edges. It may be a combination of pulldown and this which makes it more apparent.
