View Full Version : VCR grabbing all scart outputs

Have following equipment:

Hitachi 32" widescreen - 2 scarts - AV1(rgb) and AV2
LG Video - 2 scarts
Grundig Sky digibox - 2 scarts
Pioneer 525 DVD player

I have setup as following

DVD--->AV1
Digibox TV Scart---->AV1

sharing AV1 though a scart splitter box - RGB signal working fine.

Digibox Video scart--->VCR scart marked euro\decoder.
VCR audio\video scart---> AV2

As I have already said, the DVD player and Sky box work fine (obviously not at the same time) I get a great picture.

The problem occurs if I turn on the VCR - it seems to take over the TV as both AV1 and AV2 both start to output the VCR signal??? Surely the VCR should output to AV2 only as this is what it is plugged into on the TV.

If I then start to record on the VCR I just get a blank screen on AV1 even though the digibox is switched on.

Have spent all afternoon looking at this and am stumped. Anyone got any ideas?

cheers.

Try swapping the scart leads around at the your VCR although it says decoder on it I think it should be in the other one! My parents vcr (a Ferguson) was similar and switching the scarts fixed it.
LMK how you get on

why have 2 connections from the video to TV? (one direct to AV2 and one looped thru the digibox) - thats what I think is causing the video to output to both AV channels.

I would have it as:

DVD -> AV1 (thru the scart box)

VID -> DIGIBOX
DIGIBOX -> AV1 (thru the scart box)

this should work fine for recording off the digibox but not for recording DVD. Or, if you want to keep the setup you have, you can snip of the pin (from the interfering scart) that auto switches the TV channel (i think its pin 8)

Rathion: I tried that in one of my desperate attempts to fix it :)

kcxdev: your solution looks to simple to work ;) but I will give it a go. Not too fussed about recording off DVD anyway.

cheers guys.

kcxdev:

Setup as you suggested but as soon as I connect the VCR to the Digibox via scart and turn on the Vid, it takes over AV1 and you cannot watch Sky at all, only what the Vid is showing. I DON'T have anything connected to AV2 on the TV.

I have treble checked the connections and I am connecting the Digibox from VCR Scart out to the VID AV2.

Weird thing is that if you set the Vid to record a program at a certain time eg : BBC1 it will turn on and and start recording without grabbing AV1 and I can happily watch Sky whilst taping BBC1.

Strange?????

Have a look for a button marked "TV/VCR" on your VCR remote. When you find it press it:)

is the video at the end of the loop? so:

VCR -> DIGIBOX -> TV AV1 (connected as labelled on the digibox)

if it is do what RT says. My video always reverts back to TV mode when I switch it off but if its on VCR, it has precedent over the scart :)

I have a scart cable going from Digibox (VCR scart)---> VCR (AV2 Decoder scart).

I will try what RT suggested. I don't have a manual for the Grundig digibox so have nothing to refer to.

cheers guys.

connect the video TV OUT scart to the DIGIBOX VCR scart (the one at the top) :)
