View Full Version : Jericho S01E05 **Spoilers**
Best episode yet in my opinion.......
Giving the impression that Jake may have something to do with the whole thing and that Hawkins is checking up on him etc.......
I suspect that Jake worked for some secretive Government deptartment and either went rogue or decided to quit and he's not popular for that reason - thus the flagged passport.
Not sure where the Russian website bit comes from unless they're trying to make us think the Russians, Chechens or similar started things and that Hawkins may be involved in a good or bad way......
The power somehow being restored so we could see the emergency broadcast system + phones......
Predictable though that we wouldn't really find out anything more from the broadcast.
The ending with what looked like a couple of nuclear launches.......perhaps hitting back against a foreign power?
The never ending alcohol supply continues too.......
Agree with everything you said - cracking episode, with a nice dark finish....... I want answers damn it!!!
Just found out that the morse-code you can hear during the Jericho titles each week, changes & provides subtle clues to what is going on.
Also, here is a HUGE spoiler for next week's episode...
The town gets hit by an EMP pulse!
Sorry, disagree with all these comments - thought it was really boring.
The majority of the episode was about a fire and our hero running around being a hero putting out fires and turning on the water; riveting stuff - not.
Not interested in the IRS agent, the love triangle or people being rescued from mundane perils. The parts related to this being a post-nuclear scenario added up to about 2 minutes in the whole episode, the rest could have been from a daytime soap.
Think I'm about to give up on this, its just too slow.

I'm surprised it wasn't a bad episode, and others in the town are starting o act like the zombies habven't eaten their brains.
Stanley still gets the best lines though.
Could have sworn that the silos were the other side of the state from Jericho and thus way too far for a launch to shake the ground or for the town to see them launch.

This years Invasion perhaps?

I was waiting for a little green man to appear at the president's podium on the TV, maybe I've been watching too much The Outer Limits
Actually I liked Invasion. There was enough intrigue and plot revelations to keep me interested each week.
I almost never give up on a TV series but this season I stopped watching Heroes, Six Degrees and now probably Jericho.
Maybe its just me getting more discerning/harder to please in my old age :)

Another good, solid episode. The who/what regarding Hawkins & now Jake remains intriguing & the US Nuke retaliation made for a great climax ... alas, the library fire was over melodramatic & it still annoys watching how calm the bulk of the town seem to be treating the situation.
Excellent episode. I am certainly starting to think that Jake is something to do with this, perhaps the traitor that was mentioned in the last episode? And as mentioned, what a way to end, with numerous Minuteman launches from silos. Hitting back at whom? Nearly a week after the first attacks, would certainly suggest an unconventional enemy, as Soviet doctrine was always to blanket the silos with huge numbers of strikes to guaruntee the US had no retaliatory response.
And some intriguing information from Hawkins laptop. Why a Russian site first of all? Or is that just a cover? And then when he was in the US site, was he looking or flagging Jake up? So many questions, and so few people in the town seem to know much about what is really going on.

I think the Russian site was just the only internet access point he could get to via a satellite link - doubt if many US ISP's are available!
Whatever Hawkins is up to it's just too obsucure to work out on the info provided so far. Jake on the other hand is either a deserter from the armed forces or a criminal on the run.
However now Jake knows about Hawkins, and given that its connected to the bombs you have to figure Jake is living on borrowed time.
Part of me was starting to wonder whether Hawkins was a stay-behind, but in view of some of the revalations in last week's episode, I doubt that now. Have been reading Eric L. Harry's "Invasion", which deals with China invading the continental USA. In that, thousands of Special Forces stay behind, some to hold up the advance and others to wait until they pass through and then launch a resistance. I was wondering whether that was what Hawkins was part of, especially when he mentioned to his wife that he did not know how long he would be around. But I don't think that fits in with a lot of what else was said.
Only other thing I picked up on was Jake trying to tell his dad about San Diego. Now aside from Pearl Harbour, I think San Diego is the main US naval base for the Pacific Fleet and houses a large amount of nuclear weapons. Could that be what Jake was working on?
Certainly Hawkins sees some sort of kindred spirit in Jake with his "yeh, I was a pool cleaner too" comment.

As calm as most the townsfolk seem to be now, just wait until that never-ending supply of alcohol runs out ... that'll certainly put the radioactive cat amongst the dead pigeons .... all hell will break loose! :D

I'm becoming more inclined to believe that Jake is some sort of undercover operative. The flagged passports could be part of his cover eg he tries to infiltrate some sort of terror cell, they background check him and see he's on a watch list etc.
Think it's too obvious that he's been away, turns up in town just before the nukes and now appears on Hawkins' flagged passport list to be part of the bombings......something a little different is going on.
As for Hawkins "not being there too long", perhaps he has various things to do and as he mentioned, the daughter for example needs to know how to survive, so he's teaching:
[a] before he dies
[b] he's expecting a lot of violence, panic, things to run out and connected consequences so the ability to defend oneself and to salvage things is important.
[c] he's moving from place to place getting things done
[d] he dies
