Hello,

I'm going to be getting a Marantz SR4200 ASAP but don't want to pay any more than I have too! the best price I've seen so far has been at Richer Sounds (£256.95). If anyone has seen it at a better price (in the UK) please reply to this with where + how much.

Thanks!

:)

Cheers Nav,

I'm sure I saw it recently at £239 but I can't for the life of me remember where!! I'll have to check Richer's add in What HiFi. May have been in there. Must buy soon as the money is burnt it's way through my pocket and is now hurting my leg!

i had a debate with the manager of richer sounds in cardiff last week,as youve said its £256 on the rs website but in the shop its £299,the manager wouldnt budge a penny either, and i was going to get 2 rear speakers and a centre..so i cut my nose off to spite my face and left with nothing..i felt like the wekest link:(
to kop it all i ordered one of those dts systems on the bargin forum and now thats gone belly up..wheres the violin.
the Maranntz sr4200 is a top reciever though.

You get what you pay for:) That is a import - RS are not Marantz dealers! Easiest way is to call marantz or ask RS what warranty comes with it, as All Marantz UK stuff comes with a 2 year warranty, if it goes wrong just call Marantz. See the bargain forums for a UK spec SR4200 for £250. If warrantys not an issue then buy it from RS:)

What Justin hasn't told you is that it's only £269.99 at homecinemaheaven - the proprietor of which is none other than ........Justin. :)
Why not give him a call?
It even gets a 2 year warranty as well, as it's an "official" UK model. It also shows as being in stock, which is the other half of the battle - all too often, dealers advertising very low prices don't actually have any (or had one at that price), so it can be a frustrating search. Personally I wouldn't worry too much over a £15 price difference - the extra years warranty is probably worth that anyway.

Justin,

Looks like my money is going to be thrown at you very soon! I've been reading loads of reviews on the 4200 and so far I havn't been able to find anyone say anything bad about it. Well I lie, one review said that it could limit the size of your home cinema due to it not having as many inputs as others. I have no idea what he wanted to connect to it as it will have spare inputs after I've connected all my stuff!!

I have the 7200 and it is fab. Marantz have done a very good job on these. The stereo is the best i've had on an av amp. Justin always provides good service as well (and i'd be happy to pay the extra £15 to get something from him). What you have to remember is if something goes wrong it will be a lot easier to get things sorted out with him than it will other etailers.

Just bought one of these and my only gripe with it so far is the remote.
Which incidentally is completely useless.

Anyone else bought one of these and what do they think.
Justin was it worth the extra money over the 4200 ??

How much you doing the macro capable learning remotes for cos i got about 7 now and the dog keeps lying on em and hiding em which is a pain

We were thinking of purchasing the 5200, the next model up the 6200 has a learning remote and more power for approx £70 more, in the end you get what you pay for. The burning question...is it any good?

Louise

Edited to add that the difference between the 4200 and the 5200 is the 5200 has DTS-ES.

yeah youre right but where do you stop, another £100 on top of the 4200 and you can get a 5200,another £70 and you can get a....:) ...Ive read a pile of reviews, and if youve only got a max of £300 to spend on an amp,the marantzsr4200 from homecinemaheaven, the cheapest ive found ,is the best amp for under £300,and @ £250 its a steal.IMO:)

Finally getting to grips with my SR5200 remote. It [or rather I can]now control my AMP, TV, CD and VCR with one remote. Unfortunately my Wharfedale 750 is non-compatable [time for an upgrade?:) ].

Its because until last week they don`t physically exsist in the UK, only available in Europe, which is why dealers like us that deal direct with marantz have not advertised them. Marantz only launched it in gold last Wednesday, supposed to be getting the first shipment of our gold SR4200s next week:)

Cheers Jon and all that have commented:) A "Cheap" price does not always indicate a good deal, as Brands such as Denon, Yamaha, Tannoy, and Marantz come with a full 2 year or more UK warranty from authorised dealers. Just worth checking before you buy :D

This is really to Justin or any one who knows the 4200. ghostrider says that the remote is useless! Why? Does it do everything on the amp?

Not aware of anything "bad" about it, but is is one of these pre-programmed jobs (same remote as the SR500 to be fair). Certainly does all the stuff you need on the amp. Think Ghostrider was meaning he needed one remote to work all his gear, and you don`t get a "decent" remote on these amps until you go for the SR6200 and above, when you get a learning jobbie with it (bit like the RC1200 £100 job). So the Sr6200 is really overlooked, but for the difference over the 5200 you get a half decent remote & a bit more power:)

To Answer GR, depends on what you want to spend, but theres a deal on RC5000is at moment, £220 plus ship, or RC1200s for £50.

Cheers all.

Cheers Justin,

Thats fine. I'm using my Palm IIIc as my multi remote. It has full macro support and so far controls all my kit, all the other TV and stereo kit in the house and my Girlfriends TV, Vid & DVD player. Works a treat!

I currently have an old Sony component system which I want to sell and relpace with an AV amplifier as I don't use tape or vinyl anymore and I have just bought a pionner dv444 whcih I could use as a cd player.

Will the Marantz serve my needs as a surround amp when I buy the speakers and a music amp too? I am not really an audiophile, my current stereo system was bought from Currys for crying out loud.

Would anybody recommend the SR4200? I don't suppose somebody could recommend some cheap stereo speakers for it too (<130 quid) I can't use the surround stuff until I move flat anyway.

Much appreciated, sorry for being ignorant.

Cheers,

Mark.
