View Full Version : Alternative Lens Query!!
Currently have the Canon 28-105 USM and even though its a fantastic lens, I just feel im missing out seeming its not exactly got the width that i may use at some time!!
Is there any alternative lens anyone can recommend with a similar range.. i was thinking about the 17-85 IS lens but ive heard some bad stuff about it..
Any other lens which you can recommend??

Have you considered getting an additional wide angle lens, to cover perhaps 10-22mm, 10-20mm or 12-24mm?
not really... any recommendations for wide angled lenses..

I have the Canon 16-35mmL (http://www.the-digital-picture.com/Reviews/Canon-EF-16-35mm-f-2.8-L-USM-Lens-Review.aspx) wide angle and although it bears a high price tag it is amazingly sharp.. ;)
Sample here.. :)

My brother uses the Canon 17-40L and is very, very pleased with it - he keeps telling me how good it is and how solid the lens is. It does seem good and although pretty large the handling was good when I tried it on his 350D.
I cant afford an L lens!!
Tokina's 12-24 f/4 is soup-herb and won't break the bank.

Despite poor weather and DIY preventing me giving it a thorough testing, the Sigma 17-70 I just bought is very pleasing. See here for my shots nad some links to other tests/shots. http://www.thedvdforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=447723&highlight=17-70

 Sorry, I just imagined you looking at those posts and going  :D
Maybe one thing to let us know is whether you're keeping the 28-105 or not - if you do, an ultrawide (like the Tokina, or Canon's 10-22) makes sense. Otherwise, I guess a 17-70 or similar looks better.

Sigma 10-20mm is a excellent lens and well worththe cash.

ideally i would like only the one lens.. also id want one that will perform if not better but as well as the 28-105!
17-55 gets my vote. but then you need something for the longer end. 70-200 f4?
still, you're looking at a grand for both of those.

I agree. Tis a real beaut. :luv:

I don't think there is a one lens solution - that's why lenses on DSLRs are interchangeable. ;)
