I've a LG 3350 DVD player, and am half considering upgrading:)

First question is it gonna be worth it? assuming I could sell the LG for ~200ish (about right yea?) the budget would be around 350

Any suggestions?

I don't need an onboard decoder (yamaha ax620 does all that:))
I would prefer a quicker menu responce time if possible...thats the LG's worst problem.
Also music CD isn't a major issue but would be nice if the player could at least do a fair job ;)

Well, I've just ordered the Marantz DV4100 OSE from Upgrade Heaven for £350. Got a good What Hifi review (for all that's worth), and has also had good things said about it on the AVForums (although suprisingly little said on here...).

Should get it Monday, so will report back on the improvement over a Wharfedale 750 and an old Technics CD player then.

How much did the LG cost originally? 200 sounds a bit much secondhand.....

250 i think (although this was from currys)

I've just helped install the marantz 4200 for my grandad, good machine, slow to boot up and uses the same menu/gui as my LG...no idea if marantz nicked LG's innards or they both nicked somebody elses!

No, you`re talking about the DV3100OSE, which uses a LG mpeg board and firmware, the rest of the unit (PSU, audio stages and drive) are all Marantz / Philips. DV4100OSE is based on a Philips decoder with marantz output/PSU/drive stages. Hope this helps:)

er nope! DV4200 is definatly the marantz player, has the same handset hack as my LG (some no. starting 3151...)

No idea whose menu is whose. Picture (http://uk.photos.yahoo.com/c1j1b0uk) of the menu (with colour corruption caused by bright patches, but thats a seperate unresolved issue)

A mate of mine has the Marantz and the picture quality is the same as some of the high end above £1000 players. I believe that it is great at CD playback too. What hi-fi award winner 2001. I cannot imagine that you will be dissapointed with the purchase , especially at the price Justin is knocking em out at.

um, its just that if they use the same ish innards as my LG, I expect I'm still gonna get slow menu responce which is my biggest gripe with the one i've got!

Any other suggestions?

Sony's sound good, but lack of multiregion handset hacks put me off.

Are the techtronics modded players worth it??

Seem a reasonable price...
