I'm looking for bands that have a similar style of music to Ben Folds Five / Ben Folds - upbeat (or downbeat) piano-driven songs, with real feeling and introspection. They were/are one of my favourite bands/performers.

Note:- I do not count Keane/James Blunt/Coldplay in this category. :)

Anyone got suggestions?

Toploader maybe...although lots of people hated them as a band, and they are no more but very infectious tunes.

Try http://www.pandora.com - start a station based on Ben Folds Five and see what it suggests.

Also check out The Bens EP that Ben Kweller, Ben Folds and Ben Lee released. Short but great.

Cheers for this thread by the way, you just made me catch up on Ben Folds and I've seen he has a new album out soon (a compilation of his EPs he made a couple of years ago). Woo!

Yeah, looking forward to that. :)

Got the Ben Folds/Shatner album - excellent. Ditto "The Bens".

Not keen on BC Camplight to be honest. But I did find a couple of good similar bands thanks to Pandora:

- The Gabe Dixon Band
- Beazley Phillips Band

The 'Bens EP' naturally leads you to Ben Kweller as well of course. Largely up-beat, and never a great deal of introspection going on (he may be the most care-free singer-songwriter on the go right now), but some cracking piano-led stuff.
