I am fairly sure there is a thread which states that the R4 versions are very disappointing and should be avoided, even though they seem cheap.
Stick to the very good, IMHO, Artificial Eye R2 versions.

I have to agree on the rather disappointing release of The Three Colours Trilogy in Oz. Have received Blue and White.
Pros: Inexpensive
Cons: Poor video quality - poor contrast and colour, grainy almost like VCD. Packaging is bare minimum. Insert sheets did not even make use of transparent alpha cases and print more writeups on the inside cover, like some other Oz releases.
I thought as much but thank you for confirming :(
Is there a preferred R2 version or is there only one version available? with English subs :)
There is a French edition box set of the trilogy, but none of the films have English subtitles. The UK editions are identical to the French editions, which is is to say the quality is superb, only they have optional subtitles. You can get full details about the disks in my DVDTimes reviews (see sig below). The Australian disks sound woeful in comparison.
Noel many thanks for the reply. Will check out your review as well :)
Has anybody actually got any on R4 or sean the r4 to compare to the r2, & are the extras the same on both versions?
Thanks

I sent the R4 editions back unsealed as I'd read they were mastered from the VHS editions, and 4:3 letterbox rather than anamorphic widescreen like R2. Waiting to see what R1 will offer as I'm hoping for a boxset like in France. Shame the UK distributors couldn't be bothered to do the same, but then they'd rather rip us off financially. :(
