Did anyone see this hour and a half of cak?
Basically it was ITV coming up with a barely disguised pilot for their own answer to Spooks - and it was awful!!
Watchably awful mind as I was winning bets left right and centre on which cliche, lifted storyline element and instance of crap CGI was coming up next.
We counted between us it ripped off:
The Bourne Identity
The Man from Uncle
The Avengers
The Prisoner
The Da Vinci Code
Hudson Hawk
Spooks
And that was just the first half hour..... Oh and the helicopter was the same Castle Air black and yellow job they used in The Interceptor. The caravan looked like it had had a brush with the Top Gear boys and as for using a Morris Marina as a getaway vehicle...
Also the presecense of the old red telephone box in the newly built Cul-de-Sac could not have been a more obvious badly placed prop if they had chalked 'Plot Device' all over it.
It also proved one now indoubtable fact - poor old Colin Salmon will appear in any old rubbish these days :oh-hum: Must need the cash....
Where to start ?
Well it was top notch adventure, excitement, acting.....
Oh hang on that's Spooks, this was totally crap.
Couldn't help laughing when the clock-tower/lighthouse thing "blew" up  .
And we can blame Doctor Who for it too. The writer claims that he wrote it 5 years ago and if it wasn't for Doctor Who's success for placing entertainment in drama The Outsiders wouldn't have been made.

No-one's mentioned how great an actor Nigel Harman is......
And the Colin Salmon comment applies equally as well to Brian Cox!
It is very rare that I watch anything on ITV these days but I thought I would give this ago and how disappointing it was. I should have known really that nothing that ITV could come up with would seriously rival spooks.

what a load of crap, Poor show and I still don't think Nigel Harman can act.
At least it was only a 'one off special'.. so we won't accidentally ever see any more of it..
:gag:

I guess a lot of that will be to do with how many people watched it. I can't believe the great Brian Cox would agree to appear in this as he deserves better.

Embarassingly, my mother said it was really great with an (and I quote her here) original storyline
Mind you, she also really liked Howards Way and Triangle - anyone got the number for a good shrink?
Judging by the fact that so far I have yet to see a positive comment on this show (my mother excepted of course) I think we can safely say this pilot will be taken to the darkest corner of ITV's vaults from which it and any series ideas from it will never ever see daylight again.

Sole redeeming feature: Swing Out Sister soundtrack. Give them the next Bond gig I say.

Not brilliant at all, thought it would have been a lot better, never mind ITV just stick to Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Takeway and The Price is Right. :D

I watched it last night and not long afterwards I couldn't even remember anything about it. A complete waste of Brian Cox.

I was thinking it was closer to The Persuaders :D
Good news - There won't be a series !
Got to love this quote from ITV:
http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/article/ds38343.html
ITV has abolished plans to turn The Outsiders into a series after poor viewing figures for the pilot episode.
A report in The Sun also states that the thriller, starring ex-EastEnders star Nigel Harman, was deemed to be lacking in humour by ITV bosses.
The paper quotes an insider for the television network as saying: "We thought it would be a nice slick thriller. It’s a shame because we like Nigel."
The 90 minute pilot episode, screened on October 3, is reported to have cost roughly £10 million but could only manage 4.7 million viewers and a 22% share.

Well, despite everyone on here hating it, I actually thought it was harmless enough entertainment - yes, it was a complete rip off of the bourne identity, but it passed 90 minutes nicely enough - probably wouldn't hold up to a series, but was ok for a one off :)
