That wedding I did a while back?

Finally they've got back to me :D The couple (and several other guests) would like CDs of the images rather than prints.

So what's the format here, do people sell CDs of decent sized prints that can be printed, accepting that they could have possibly made more on actual prints, and if so, for how much?

Bear in mind this was my first ever wedding, I wasn't amazingly good, but they liked the pics, and I've no desire to take the ****.

Did they pay you for the wedding GJ?

Yup. Well, the best man did, it was his present to them - they weren't going to have any proper photos at all as they couldn't afford it. It was mate's rates between us to be quite honest, but I was really after the experience so it worked well.

Oh and I said I'd chuck in 10 prints for them anyway.

Given the circumstances above its difficult to suggest a price as it wasn't a standard job (a bit like the 1st one I did). I don't offer a CD as standard but on the one occasion I was asked for one it was a mate's wedding and she just wanted to see everything I shot so was quite happy for me to bung them all on a CD at reduced size and with a copyright statement on them (she also wanted to show them off at work). It didn't take me more than 10 mins to do so I didn't charge for it. I wouldn't sell a CD with printable quality pictures on as I do make money from reprints.

Sorry not alot of help I know but I'd be surprised if you find anyone who'd sell all the images at printable quality. As it was a mate's rate's deal come up with a figure you're happy with, is all I can suggest.

You'll also have to factor in all the lost earnings in reprints for family and friends with pics on cd as they'll most likely put in a big photobox order first thing.

As this was an unagreed part of the deal, but, you want to keep it friendly, I think you have 2 possible tacks, give them the choice:

1) A cheap, quick and dirty 'viewable' CD with 800x600's at lowish res and an uglyish watermark - so they don't print too well - explain that you'll happily do them a friends price on decent quality prints.

2) Bite the bullet on this one, charge a bit more for some decent res images but add your copyright and contact details into the image and hope it generates some free advertising. Of course, it's easy enough to crop them out but a lot of work if there's lots of images.

I've seen various CD's with all sorts of embedded images and file protection etc - none of which beat "ctrl-alt-printscreen".

Our wedding photographer would only make them into a DVD video/video cd for us - i.e. doesn't look too bad on a TV, but if you tried to print them at any size, would look awful. Think they wanted about £40 for doing this..... didn't take them up on the offer though....

My brother paid just over £200 for a cd with all the hi res pics of his wedding (2 years ago) from a "pro" photographer that was in addition obviously to their normal wedding fee. It was definitely worth it for him based on the number of prints he made from it.
