View Full Version : Heroes 1 - 2 (Spoilers)
I enjoyed this far more than the first episode.
This has more questions unanswered than Lost!
Noticed the show doesn't shy away from slightly gorier scenes either.
Did the geek "teleport" back to the same time as he left or was it later?
Anyone notice if the people on the tube were the same?

really enjoying this series
Forgot to say, always nice to see Clea Duvall on my screen.

I take it we'v had our first hint of the villains. This Silar person appears to have telekinesis abilities (well thats how I explain all the knives in that dead body).
Also someone who apparently freezes people.
Also seems to be someone after brains.
So far its interesting. Definite potential. I like that it doesn't shy away from gore.
Wow! .... That's more like it! .... I liked the first episode but feared that it was going to be generic & predictable .... I couldn't have been further away from the truth .... Fantastic television, with more puzzles in this week's episode than the last season of Lost ..... More please! :notworthy

Glad to see lots of other people seem to be loving this too - I think it is superb
Very very impressed and finding it highly unpredictable which is a good thing. Really looking forward to seeing how this pans out. That end scene where the Japanese guy finds out its a month ahead and the explosion was genius and very well done. I also liked how each episode is loosley set on the date that it airs in America with the newspaper last week and the Japanese guys watch this week.
Only small niggles is stupid things happening to achieve certain plot points. Like why on earth did the Japanese guy pick up the gun? No one would ever pick up that gun and then of course the cops storm the place. That was the only predictable bit of the episode.
There was one other thing that annoyed me but I cant remember what it was so it cant have been that bad.
I have a sneaking suspicion that Claire's adopted dad is Cyler...
Also did everyone catch the paintings matching the symbles appearing in the Indian guys software? Neat.

I was going to counter with the fact that Claire's dad coudn't be Sylar since Hiro discovered Isaac's body when he was already at home with his family....
...but then of course we found out that whole sequence was set 5 weeks ahead! So who knows - it's doing well in not being predictable. And how gory?
Loving it. And good to see Greg Grunberg at last - about time he had a role to get his teeth into.

Excellant first two shows, I too am wondering if Claires dad is Cyler. The only compalint I've got is that there are too many charecters in too many seperate story lines.
Nurse + Brother +Mom
Painter + Gf + her dad
Claire + smoking glasses guy/dad + a/v geek
Stripper Nikki + son
telepathic cop + DuVall
Hiro + friend
Mohinder + female
Oh and they need a new voice over guy who isn't quite so pretenious(sp)

"Sylar", people, come on, get with the spelling....
And managing so many characters is what makes it interesting for me. Oh, and Ali Larter. :)

I second that! That guy really put me off, I kept thinking it was a trailer for some cheesy B movie, terrible stuff.

Really enjoying this, its got me hooked like the very first few episodes of Lost did, heres hoping these guys know where they're going with the plot :D
I thought the first episode was average but it does seem to have kicked it up a notch.
Also did everyone catch the paintings matching the symbles appearing in the Indian guys software? Neat.
Yup, spotted that & also whatever was in the pool at the murder-scene also was in the same shape/symbol .... i'm guessing it is part of a DNA strand .... probably the part that kick-starts each person's "superpower" ... like the metagene thingy that appears in the DC comic world...... mentioning comics, how freaky was our crazy Japanese nerd discovering his comicbook!

Hiro's blog, (which I mentioned in the 1st episode thread) had been updated to when he was in New York, after this one, it's been un-updated back to when he's still in Japan. This is reeeeeally good stuff. :D
Hiro's comic is (a different issue of) the same comic that the kid is reading in the first episode, and the monster on the cover is Hiro's screensaver.
Personally I'd pick up a gun lying on the floor if I thought a crazy killer was still in the area, especially if should the police think I did it, I could simply teleport away.
When it does air on UK TV it's going to be missing lots of neat little effects, like sort of being done in real time, the blog and comic being done in sync with the episodes.
Definitely hope it continues like this
Slightly random question, the soundtrack/theme that always plays in the background at dramatic type points, a sort of haunting voice not really singing words, just notes. It's really reminding me of a movie that I can't place, any ideas?

My favourite show so far.
Just watched the end bit again with the flying brothers and got a feeling that the older brother might be the baddie. Just a hunch.
Anyone got any theories what happened to stripper-girl? ..... One minute she's watching the static on her camcorder, then suddenly she finds herself in different clothing & time has advanced several hours?!? .... I assume her mirror-image persona did the clean-up & stuffed the body parts in the boot of her new car?
cockbongo
03-10-2006, 23:29
Yep, i think the older brother is definitely the evil one of the two, although i don't know if he's Sylar. I liked the fact that it appeared the younger brother could see into the future as well - his stick drawing echoed exactly what happened later on on the roof.
Ali Larter's character has an evil-twin-reflection-type-thing going on, although i'd like to think it's more like the Hulk - she gets mad, smashes the place up, then doesn't remember a thing. Mind you, the Hulk wasn't quite as helpful - nice of her alter ego to tidy up, eh? Any thoughts as to what was buried under the desert?

Slow burner i think but i like it
Im thinking (although im sure wrong) that the skeleton she dug up in the desert is the body of the person thats possesing her? Maybe the stripper's power is chanelling restless spirits when the need arises?
A bit far fetched I know :D
Im thinking (although im sure wrong) that the skeleton she dug up in the desert is the body of the person thats possesing her?
I don't remember that bit  Who's Skylar btw?
We obviously have one bad guy, Claire the cheerleaders dad. Obviously they've already told her she's adopted, they acted like that wasn't a secret.
Anyway it was a fantastic episode, good to see Greg Grunberg as the psychic cop and Clea Duvall as cynical-FBI lady.
For me the best bit was Hiro spotting the comic that basically told his story and (let me get this right) the artist was the guy who paints the future but he ends up getting killed before the bomb goes of in NYC? I imagine Hiro will try to go back and stop that from happening. He's not that smart though, blurting out all that stuff about teleporting

I enjoyed the first episode but this was so much better. Shaping up to be a cracker of a show.
Looking forward to part 2 - of the few new US shows I've sampled this past fortnight, only this has held me. Still squirming about the cheerleader's ribs though.

Stripper!Nikki's alternate personality apart from being super strong, afterall she pulled a man apart, is organised. The car was registered to Niki in June.
The body in the desert could be evidence that Niki has been killing for a while now. Being active when Stripper!Nikki is asleep?I thought the first episode was average but it does seem to have kicked it up a notch. Was it originally planned as a 2 hour pilot? If so that would explain the uneven nature of the first two episodes as the makers split it into 2 seperate episodes.
Seems to have been a lot of changes made to the original pilot. The Artist cut his hand off originally rather than took an overdose..... you can still see the scene in the trailer available to d/load on the Xbox marketplace. Also the serial-killer was originally supposed to be a terrorist & was involved with causing the train derailment.

Good point, and that certainly makes more sense than my guess
So now we're back on the idea that Nikki is a supervillan, she just doesnt know it?
He absorbs other people's powers, which explains how he can fly (borrowed from his brother, Nathan) & draw images from the future (borrowed from the artist) ... This has been confirmed in recent issue of TV-Guide in the US.

I actually think this is "too" obvious. I'd be surprised if the dad turned out to be a bad guy, seems far too obvious to me, they are pushing that idea too hard for my liking. As if they are going to pull a surprise twist and say "hey he's a good guy after all!". But we'll see, either way as long as it continues to be this good I'll be happy.
Why would you be surprised? He stole the tape and as we've seen, he's been going after others connected to this world.

This is really rather good! Lots of intrigue! And I really like the Hiro character. He speaka da Engrish!

That's a bit lame: he's just a straight rip of Rogue then.
enjoying this a lot
anyone else think it was just a bit too convenient that pixie-looking girl from Everwood just happened to be there to save Indian fella from the "bug-spraying" baddie in the hallway?

Would have been his own fault. Bad guy was more intent in getting away until he chased him.
What i did notice though was that it was the same gun, that we see Hiro pick up at the end.
Frozen bodies with half their head's missing is a nice touch. Liked the one stuck on the wall with daggers too.
The finale was amazing. This ep has hooked me now.

Had to laugh at the bit at the end of that piece. I didn't realise that the garbage disposal was indentifiable in that scene, but if it was it was not a very good advert for the safety of their product
One gray cloud for Heroes: Appliance maker Emerson Electrics is suing NBC for using its product without authorization in a scene from the show's pilot. The scene depicts teen cheerleader Hayden Panettiere (Claire Bennet) accidentally sticking her hand into the In-Sink-Erator, only to find the mangled appendage quickly repairing itself.
But she didnt "accidentally" stick her hands in. She did in on purpose knowing that it wouldnt hurt her. Also with that scene, why didnt she just turn off the garabase disposal then put her hand in? Its just a flick of a switch.

The theme, minus the vocals is very similar to the theme that plays during key moments in Batman Begins.
Works very well with the plot...

Looka like the writers are "geek-savvy" like the ones from Lost, they know wht details to put in that'll get the internet forums talking

It is certainly growing on me. I did like Hiro's "flash forward", so we now know there is some sort of attack to happen in NYC on the 8th November. But what year? I can't think that they would want to stop that so quick, so I guess it could be another year, not just a month ahead.
Liking the fact that they are building up slowly with all the heroes slowly coming aware of their powers and to terms with it. At some point they will start to ask why, although I suspect that is what the professor is for, and he is the one to bring them all together so they can fulfil their destiny.
Very different and interesting.
Interesting series. Not holding back on the blood either. But who is Sylar dude mentioned??I believe that's the name of the killer that the telepathic cop knew when he shouldn't have, and contributed to him being arrested.

Did the newspaper show the nurses brother winning the election? Or was it someone else...It was the elder brother. And he won by a landslide so something must happen between now and then to change the political landscape cos he's currently down in the polls by 10 IIRC

Er but didn't his friend say he'd been missing for just 5 weeks?
   Of course he did. That then racks up the pressure. Unless the Heroes can get together and work it all out in 5 weeks, or disrupt the future so that it does not happen in 5 weeks, then it makes you wonder how they will stretch the plot out.
That said, I would not be surprised if they start doing a Lost and giving us plenty of backstory about each character.
Starting to become convinced that as well as Heroes we are seeing the rise of Villains as well, and that Niki is one of the Villains.

The 5 weeks thing probably fits for the first series - they're only moving on a day at a time at the moment.
DIdn't enjoy the first episode, but this one was a bit better - I'll watch the next couple and decide whether to stick with it. It's still a bit too "New adventures of superman" for me.

Are they? Did the indian guy manage to move to New York the same day he found out his father died? I thought it was over a couple of days, or maybe some stories move at a different pace.

Just watched this ,blimey this is good stuff.Very gory in places and keeps you guessing.
Just finished this and it certainly has some bite, sawn off tops of heads and the cheeleader getting her neck twisted round.
Could be her dad is some sort of (hush hush) Govt. agent keeping tabs on these people. Agenda? Probably kept muddy until sometime later.
Sylar could absorb peoples powers by eating their brains?
Stripper Nikki could be killing bad guys only, her subconcious does seem to have a history of it, or is there someone else looking after her?
As for Greg Grunberg, good to see him in a series again (and seemingly for a longer time than the "Hello, aaagh!" in Lost), though I half expect him to still be Eric Weiss undercover for some covert operation. ;)
Also think (Super) Hiro will be travelling to New York properly in the next episode.
So we have a mish-mash of people who will try and prevent some tragedy, it seems more like Mystery Men rather than the X-Men.
This is on tonight! Hope there's a lot of you watching it! It's really really excellent TV.

Watched the first two episodes tonight. Absolutely excellent TV and I don't know where the time went. So many interesting characters/plot threads and possibilities. I am clearly missing something here. What about the first two episodes where excellent?
I too saw them tonight (for the first time) and I have the exact opposite reaction to you. Is it a marmite thing?
They left me bored, I even thought about going into the loft for some random thing that I meant to do. My mind was all other the place, certainly not enthralled by great TV.

Yes I thought it was excellent. It was sort of the polar opposite of something like Smallville. I like Smallville for what it is but almost everything about Heroes so far is refreshingly different.
All of the characters seem like regular people living ordinary lives and not merely heroes waiting to discover their powers. They are a diverse group of characters each with their own stories and powers. All of the character/plot threads seem equally interesting so there’s never any sense of a B, C or D storyline that is less interesting.
In many TV series all the characters know one another and we learn what is going on at the same time they do. In Heroes we are discovering their powers when they do but as viewers we are clearly in possession of more pieces of the puzzle than any one character. We can all think/speculate on how the story threads might develop and interconnect because there are so many possibilities and potential for this series.
The characters are already very comfortable in their roles right from the start. It is like watching their characters and not someone playing these roles. Many TV series take time to develop their characters even if it is only a few episodes. Heroes hits the ground running in this respect.
There are lots of things going on. Many series take time to get going but I was surprised just how much has happened in the space of two episodes. I’m even going to watch these two episodes again because there’s probably some things I missed or didn’t pick up on until the second episode.
I can’t wait to see how everything develops as opposed to most new series where my reaction is usually something like, I’ll stick with it to see if it gets better. This series has a lot of potential and the writers have opened up all sorts of possibilities instead of painting themselves into a corner (creatively).

It's definitely in the "pretty good" department IMO. This is one of the few recent shows I haven't been downloading and have just waited to hit UK terrestrial shores.
Very gory for US network TV by all accounts (can only think of some isolated eps of the X-Files topping it in the blood/gore stakes). The moments in Heroes do seem quite shocking really, considering it plays out a little like a typical teen-drama for a while, then there's suddenly some action and gore. Great SFX work here - some nicely subtle use of CGI, and some great traditional creature/prosthetic effects...
I'm definitely going to stick with it - the writers clearly know what they have planned for it (unlike Lost) - the whole set-up was done very well - very interested to see how the next (previous) 5 weeks play out now...
Thumbs-up!
Anyone have any comments on the aspect ratio?
To me, it looks cramped and truncated on my 16:9, as though it were intended for a wider ratio.

I'm enjoying this. 2nd episode was really good in relation to the first IMO.
As someone who has never watched lost or 24 then it's a bit of a novelty watching a 'series' for a change as I only tend to watch documentaries and football and top gear. That's about it in my series link.
So why watch Heroes, simple, it's in HD. Glad I did now, might go and watch Lost and 24 if Sky show it in HD as well.

Seems like a pretty interesting show, and as a lot have already said, a lot like Lost. Not sure if I'll stick with it, not usually a stickler for a TV-based routine.
