According to The Digital Bits the dvd for LOTR1, which will come out prior to The Two Towers release will be an extended version with loads of extras. The article quotes from an interview of one of the producers and says the release will be at least a 2 disc and may even be a 3 disc set.
Doesn't look like it will be worth waiting for the complete set then although plans to have the whole three films on one disc back to back providing some 9 hours of viewing have not been ruled out.

Very doubtful on one disc m8y :) Unless there are amazing advances in DVD technology in the next 3 years! It will more than likely be a 6-9 disc set in total by the end of the releases. Those 30-40 mins of deleted scenes will be very juicy on FOTR though!
.....or they reduce the encoding to VCD quality with mono sound.:D
9 months in advance....
who gives a rat's ass?
:)
What about those Jurassic Park IV specs...
Have to agree with McD. The film is only just out in the cinema - can people not just enjoy it on the big screen for a while.
