I've just checked epguides.com for the release dates of the next Stargate Eps...... March 2007!!! 5 month gap in the middle of the season! Bonkers
Is this normal? I can't remember!
Is this normal? I can't remember!
Yes this happens every year.
yes, its very normal
No it is not, not this long. They normally stop around now and restart in January. This break does seem unusually long. I wonder if it is due to them having to rewrite the second half of SG1 to wind up the series?
Edit - for example, looking at last year from www.tv.com for the US dates.
SG1 - The Fourth Horseman Pt1 - 16/09/2005, Pt2 - 06/01/2006.
Atlantis - The Lost Boys - 23/09/2005, The Hive - 06/01/2006.
Mid season breaks happen to a lot of shows.
The next Atlantis episode gets shown October 31st in Canada.
Not sure what is happening with SG-1 as thats being delayed due to rewrite of the end of the series, might get shown in Canada/UK first if they sort it out by January.
It's a big gap for SG-1 but like last year, Atlantis should be back on Canadian TV in November.
I am pretty sure it's nothing to do with any rewrites this has been planned since the beginning of the season, it's so they can have the entire run of Battlestar in the gap.
Last year SG1, Atlantis and BSG all aired on the same night, in two blocks of ten: September - October and January - February.
This year they're spreading it out a little, with the Stargates running August - September, BSG running October - February (with a two week break in later December), and the Stargates picking up for thier back 10 in March - April.
Can someone explain why they do this? I've never understood it.
Thanks
Because they're American!
Basically, the "big" shows run from Sep-Oct through to May ish, with gaps here and there for random re runs. This applies to the big channels like ABC etc. That's the traditional format, as I understand it. Things like 24 have changed the idea recently, running every week for 5-6 months, but they're still in the minority.
The smaller channels thus take advantage of the lulls in summer to put their big shows on, when there's less competition, hence Stargate and Atlantis premiering in the summer. They run through to the start of the fall season on the big networks and then go on hiatus for a while. I dunno what the reasoning behind bringing them back in January or March is tbh, but I guess coming back in March this year gives them a 2 month block of shows to compete wtih the final eps of the big network shows and then leave a gap to the start of their next summer season (in July ish). Or perhaps it's just to fit Battlestar in, competing with the big boys through to February ish.
Network execs are crazy anyway.
Over here we'd call it 2 separate series. That way Stargate would be on it's 20th season !!
Someone mentioned it restarts in Canada sooner than the US?

Yes the second half of Atlantis has always aired in Canada in November instead of January like on Sci-Fi, dont ask me why but it always has.

Well Atlantis 3x11 aired last night in Canada so what are peoples thoughts on it?
Was kinda keeping my expectations low for this and ended up thinking it was decent enough. Though I can imagine some being dissappointed.
Thought the flashback to explain the twist was a bit pointless, it was blindingly obvious from the moment Rodney started babbling to Woolsey:D

Thought it was a fantastic episode, definitely better than the first part and for the first time in years O'Neill seemed like O'Neill again, not the toned down distant version we have seen lately
Spotted that Atlantis had restarted, any news on when SG1 is reastarting? I'm asuming it is restarting in Canada before the US.

I think SG1 episodes start tonight if Im correct. Just trying to find where I saw this from :D
hmmm cant seem to find it... perhaps I imagined it, however seems to be no mention of Atlantis S03 Ep11 anywhere either.
Definitely read somewhere last night that SG1 wouldn't be back till January sometime?
Guess having it confirmed as their last season may have meant some rewrites quickly to tie things up and they need the extra time?
200th episode tonight on Sky One. I hope it is as good as the 100th episode. :D

I just finished SGA last night (3.10). I dumped the show a couple of years back, and am glad I gave it another go as I've been loving it. Less gritty than BSG but more fun.
Certainly more fun than SG1 (am trying to work my way through S7 so I can get onto S8 and S9, since I've bought the dvds and don't want to waste my money).
Fantastic timing for this new one, as I'd expected to have to wait until january!

you are misinformed, as the story will be wrapped up in a couple of direct to DVD films to tie the ori storyline up. then carter will jump ship to season 4 of Atlantis.
Any chance that these 'direct to DVD films' will eventually turn up on TV somewhere ?

New episodes of SG-1 dont air until January and that will be on Sky One.
Also, Altantis 3x11 is definitely available as I watched it last night.

I would imagine so at some point, just like the bab5 ones did for example..
Nobody else been keeping up with these?
It's been 2 or 3 standalone episodes so far, not much of the main story. Although they did just show them out of synch for some reason, skipped episode 14 and showed 15 :?: Worked fine on it's own, maybe 14 and 16 concentrate more on the main story and they wanted to show them back to back
I read something happened in 14 that wouldn't make sense until you saw 15 or something. Which sounds very odd as surely they would have noticed when they were scripted and / or filmed?
I have been keeping up, really liked the "super rodney" episode

not quite
summat happens in 14 that makes 15 a bit nonsensical... basically the story ends up twisted backwards.

Seems they were never ment to be shown in the order listed on Gateworld so Canada is airing them in the correct order and this is how they will be aired in the UK and US.

I have a question about 3.15 (broadcast episode 14)
my SGA memory is bad. when did Shephard and Wier spend
six months with the ancients learning about ascension?

During Season 2 in an episode called Epiphany (http://gateworld.net/atlantis/s2/212.shtml) and then is was only Shephard.
Some good lines from Rodney at the start of this Populus inspired episode :D
Also good to see Daisy from Dead Like Me :luv:
If only she'd been on the leather clad side tho

Will there be an ep 14?
One of those last two episodes is episode 14, it just depends how you look at it, from a production or air date point of view.
Ep 19, Vengeance
Godzilla vs Mothra style cheesey-monster-suit-tastic

Guess they had to save up some money for the season finale and from what I have read sbout it, it is going to be a hell of an episode.
