Can I play a CD on my DVD player (Tosh 2109) and record it to my (new) minidisk recorder via my digitheatre ?? The digitheatre has an optical socket, is this the one to connect to the MD ??

Your Tosh should have digital outputs (optical/coax) on it so just run a cable directly from it to the Minidisc deck...
