View Full Version : Is anybody else getting annoyed by . .
. . the increasing use of key scenes as you wait to select play or view the extras. I generally buy my films without having seen them before and increasily you see key parts of the story, or fight scene, and in some cases the bl00dy ending (CTHD being a classic case :(), before you've had a chance to see the film. Grrrr.

Yes I agree completely - Meet The Parents was another that gave away a few major gags. I'm not a big fan of the animated menu - I just dont see the point. Even though some can look cool - they can be equally irritating.
Andrew
To be honest I’ve gone that I try to not to take any notice at all of the menus etc. If it’s a film I’ve never seen I don’t even bother reading the case, just start the film a.s.a.p. A mate in work watches the extras first and will quite happily watch the making of prior to viewing the film. Now how many times do the makings of reveal virtually everything about the plot.
Bish - I'd never do that. On one occasion I watched one of the music videos whilst waiting for my better half to get ready :( They usually contain ALL the key scenes. Still, it was only an Arnie film so I knew what it would contain anyway :D
I now always try not to watch the animated menus until I've seen the film although in some cases this is very difficult. I quite like animated menus on the whole but they needn't contain important features . . . .
TFATF is another that springs to mind . . .
And some of the forced adverts that contain the film you are about to watch but has all the action highlights . . . again TFATF has this
totally agree, flicked through the extras on final destination and it showed me the girl getting hit by the bus which is without out a doubt the biggest shock in the film
well done to the dvd producers!!!!
Edited to cover spoiler - Gromit

Three words - The Shawshank Redemption.
Thank God that the people who did this menu were kept well clear of The Sixth Sense.

I got Jeepers Creepers through the post, stuck it in my machine, only to find myself staring at scenes on the menu which totally gave the movie away.
It's especially annoying with a horror film as not knowing what it is, or to expect, is the whole point.
Damn you MGM

With Shawshank you more or less know whats gonna happen, its on the front cover :) Its the getting there that's the interesting bit...
That said I have the R4 which doesn't spoiler AFAIK :D

Phew! Glad I'm not the only one to do this, then again it was the first disc I bought when I got my player and I didn't have time to watch the film on the first night so I had to do something. :) It actually gives away all of the surprises IIRC.

Andrew Yep, the JP disc are a prime eg! I hate having to wait and the new fad in the us ones of putting an ad in is just plain annoying!
If you want a disc with NO CHANCE of finding out the surprise ending, look no further than the original Planet Of The Apes. The packaging AND the disc label AND the main menu ALL blow the ending!! Nice...

How about putting spoiler tags around that or you will have destroyed the film's biggest 'shock' in much the same manner as the extra's you are complaining about!

To those that say that animated menus are a nuisance - spoilers aside; check out the animated menus for HKL's Game of Death special edition. The graphics and the (specially composed?) music act as a tribute to Bruce Lee and lend the disc(s) a classiness which is not matched by the film unfortunately - although the magnificent range of extras more than make up for that.

His post doesn't spoil the film though, as you wouldn't know who exactly gets hit, or when they get hit. It's like saying 'there's a prison in The Shawshank Redemption'

That's the film that started me on this rant
Damned annoyed at them
Sorry you suffered from it too m8.
I've added spoiler tags to the Final Destination part to prevent anybody see it, at least from now on. Agree with Dagada though, it's a nice touch of irony.
Try to bear in mind others may not have seen the film that you're discussing. Use spoiler tags where appropriate.

Granted - but seeing...
Him fall out of the waste pipe just gives that little too much info that people who are seeing the film for the first time would benefit from not seeing.
Just unnecessary to use that particular scene on the menu. :)
