Decent if predictable episode.

Nice to see Jimmy in it now - hopefully this season wont have those annoying "gap" episodes.

So a decent start - lets hope for a strong season.

How many times have we read this regarding Smallville....

Don't go kidding yourselves, folks! :nono:

After following the first 5 seasons I think this show has finally tried my patience, and bringing in Jimmy Olsen just to pep up the series so that they can keep doing the same old formulaic episodes over and over may not be enough to keep me interested this time. Remind me when it's the season finale (aka The Good episode).

Tidied up far too quickly........

Handy that clark meets a conveniently placed hot girl in the Phantom Zone.
Lana didn't die again :(
Would have liked to see Lex/Zod Vs US Military when he popped to the Pentagon.
Sure all the devistation will be fine by next week's episode as well.

Probably going to drag out Clark Vs. Evil Zoners for the next few episodes until Zod returns again for the season finale.

Great episode and hopefully it can continue from here.

Didn't bother watching this but let me know if my prediction in the Season Finale thread were at all close?

Oh come on you're not all going to fall for it again, next episode within 10 minutes Clark will be out of the Phantom Zone and he'll have a scrap with Lex culminating in no more Zod and amnesia for Lex, hell they'll probably throw in a Lex/Lana break-up followed by a scene in the barn where she tells Clark how much she cares for him but omg his secrets!

Your close. Got the first part right but not the second. :)

As i said in my first post, predictable. Its Superman, you almost have to watch it :dork:

No you are were wrong.

It took Clark 30 minutes to get out of the Phantom Zone.

Just watched this and yes it was predictable but I rather enjoyed it. I knew Lana would be knocked out so she wouldn't see any of Clark's power, loved Clark meeting Jimmy Olsen.

I though at the end it was gonna show Milton Fine in Argentina

I recently watched S5 on DVD and actually thought it was a really strong season - is that going against the common consensus ?

The thing for me about S5 is that it had quite a strong and interesting story arc, the dukes of hazzard death was done well, lana got to find out (temporarily) about clarks super-powers, clark & lana finally made out and lost their virginities and (temporarily) got engaged, lana then got it on with lexx leading to the hope that the annoying clark/lana relationship has been put to bed and paving the way for the clark/lois thing, the interesting lois lane character was developed and chloe as ever was good stuff
- and thats only the stuff I recall off the top of my head that made me think it was a strong season

Funnily enough before I started watching it on DVD I watched the odd episode on TV and thought it was pretty rubbish and couldnt get into it at all - rated Roswell a lot more (but not so much now)

Why do I watch Smallville?

Near enough as I predicted - massive reset button probably by end of 6x01 :)

Again, they could have had a massive story line involving Clark vs Zod lasting about 8 episodes, but instead some phantom escapes, Lex going to be obsessed over this fragment he found for 20 episodes. Clark getting jealous of Chloe/James and Lana.... I don't even want to think about how badly she's going to mess up the Season otherwise it will make me cry.

The only reason to watch is the potential eye candy of all the beautiful women.... that and Krypto the Superdog becoming the main character.

I think so, generally people thought Season 5 was rubbish, only mildly better than season 4, and that's no real positive. A few good episodes don't make a season.

Not too bad - but it would have been far better if they had used the Zod storyline to arc throughout a number of episodes.

After Clark picks up the little Superman badge I really thought he'd fly.....nearly! :'(

He got Zod out of Lex's body but I he will return I think he was the spirit flying towards the screen at the end.

That was just one of the phantoms that escaped when Clark did i think?

The idea that Jor-El built an escape from the Phantom Zone specifically for his family was nothing short of risible. If he was so intent on saving Krypton why not open the gate up for any Kryptonian and use the Phantom Zone to save more of his race? And if he can genetically key-code it, why not use that technology to stop the prisoners from using it?

Some good plus points in the episode though - the Clark/Zod battle was pretty good.

Do you reckon the phantom zone hotty might be back? :n0rty:

She looked pretty much dead when everyone was sucked out of the zone, but as we all know anything is possible in Smallville!

Well she is Kryptonian so if she was brought to earth her wounds would have healed like Clarks.

Smallville is dross, but quite enjoyable dross.

Each time I watch it with the wife we try to guess who'll be in hospital this episiode.

Good episode, loved that we got the "kneel before Zod" :notworthy . Meteor freaks most likely be replaced by Krytonians now as the VOTW. How many more seasons of this are planned? Could this be the final one?

I thought it was good too. Depends what you mean by common consensus? It is still a popular show on TV if you mean that. The threads on here are filled by some very cynical people who complain about every episode, every week, every season, but continue to watch it. :cuckoo:

Like others have said, it was predictable, annoying & ridiculous ..... but still strangely entertaining .... The brief Zod v Clark fight was very well done, the weight behind their blows was convincing.... no doubt it'll be back to normal banality next week though. :|

rather predictable, if enjoyable, fodder. zod v clark was good and zod gave him a propper kicking, too. lana jumps from being a clueless bint in one relationship, right into another. what IS the point of her???

when is clark gonna fly? surely the time is right for him to let rip. it's what we all want and it would give the show a much needed lift.

My first thought when Lex flew.. and Clark saw him/flew through the air with him was - surely now Clark should realise that he must be able to fly, if a fellow Kryptonian can?

Hopefully, and I somehow doubt this.. Clark will begin trying to fly in the coming episodes.... and eventually nail it in time to do something super.

Need to go back and re-watch it as i thought all the others got sucked in from the Phantom Zone through the Gate as well... ?

Suppose we will find out soon enough.

Great Episode! Great Fight!

Glad Smallville is back.

Cheers. :)

I don't think they're allowed to have him flying - sort of a deal with the film people.

Thought it was OK, but very similar to all the other first episodes - big cliffhanger all neatly wrapped up in just over half an hour with most people unconcious/memory wiped, so no probs for Supe's secret identity. We'll see if they can at least attempt to keep the quality up for the next few episodes, but forgive me if I'm a little wary. Certainly I wasn't at all sure about the Jimmy Olsen character, given the fantastic job they did with that role in the recent movie.

With regards to the comments on "well why do you watch it then?" - it's simply because we know the show has the ability to be so much better if it could just grow some balls. For instance, if the Lex/Zod thing was spread over a couple of episodes and not so neatly tied up - and if it had led to a more distinct change in his character afterwards.

That said - the fight scene was cool - and managed to be much more thrilling than large parts of Superman Returns, but on a much smaller budget...

Flying scenes are also very expensive as just a few seconds of footage takes up a chunk of the effects budget.

Smallville just keeps getting worse and worse.... and I still keep watching it.

I mean given all the stuff that happened in last seasons finale and this episode they still managed to do a 'reset' at the end.
What's the betting next week that Lex has no memory of any Zod stuff, Lana sticks with him. Clark minces around not telling Chloe he loves her.
Ohh then at some point he'll face the other escapes from the Phantom Zone.

Was really disappointed by this on first watch - but i was a bit distracted and stopped it about 4 times. Am going to watch it properly on my 42" screen instead of my laptop and hope for the best.

Just weird as i couldn't get into it, despite it's faults i thoroughly enjoyed the last season. Maybe i've just grown out of it  how ridiculous does that sound

Didnt the guy who plays Clark state from the begining that he would quit as soon as they started Clark flying?

bacon33
03-10-2006, 09:01
I don't think they're allowed to have him flying - sort of a deal with the film people.

We've seen him fly before when Jor-el possessed Clark but they copped out at the end of the episode when Clark was back to normal and uttered the phrase "Jor-el can fly not Clark Kent".

But surely now is the time it happens!! But then again they have totally destroyed the Superman timeline so he'll probably learn to fly in Smallville: The Golden Years. Featuring Clark and Bruce Wayne as a pensioner crime fighting duo :oh-hum:

Actually, is it me or does that actually sound like a good idea???

well quite, but if that's her only reason for existing then she should make with the flesh and give us the real deal. i mean last season we saw lois getting well saucy at the strip club and down at the beach. and lana gives us zip! she needs to start earning her keep.

His twin has also been in Smallville, the episode where he took Clarks powers after they were both struck by lightening whilst holding Krypronite (from season 1 I believe).

Didnt he reappear in an episode with that lad from Home Improvements? I think he had the ability to split himself in two. Cant quite remember. But its when Clark goes into the asylum to visit Lex.
